Summer is just around the corner, and with the holiday season fast approaching, finding the perfect destination that welcomes the whole family — four-legged members included — can be quite the challenge. Taking your dog abroad can be complicated, but with so many stunning locations across the UK, there is no need to venture overseas for a brilliant break with your beloved pet.
Top Dog-Friendly City: Manchester
Capital on Tap has assessed UK towns to identify the top spots for a dog-friendly getaway, weighing up green space, pet-friendly venues and access to pet shops for those last-minute essentials. Manchester takes the top spot, boasting 34.7% green space and a whopping 128 pet shops. The city has a thriving dog-friendly culture, with welcoming venues such as Rudy's and Seven Bro7hers. Neighbourhoods like Ancoats and the Northern Quarter are brimming with pet-friendly hotspots, making it a doddle to plan a fantastic day out.
Second and Third Places
Brighton and Hove claims second place, offering the highest proportion of dog-friendly venues alongside 27.3% green space, cementing its status as one of the most accommodating coastal destinations for dog owners. The beaches are equally ideal for a summer stroll with your pooch, though restrictions do apply between May 1 and September 30. During this period, dogs are permitted only in designated seafront areas — but it remains a superb choice for dog lovers nonetheless. Rounding off the top three is Swansea, which leads the pack with an impressive 46.5% green space, offering no shortage of splendid spots for a scenic dog walk. From the coastal trails of the Gower Peninsula to leisurely walks through Singleton Park and alongside the River Tawe, you are spoilt for choice. There is also no shortage of dog-friendly venues where you can enjoy a meal and a pint alongside your four-legged companions.
