The four-year-old girl had slipped and become trapped in the perilous gap between the massive Carnival Sunrise cruise ship and the dock at Carnival's Celebration Key in the Bahamas.
Dramatic Rescue Caught on Camera
Heart-stopping footage, recorded by a passenger on the nearby Carnival Conquest on December 21, captured the frantic moments. The video shows crew members, dressed in beige and blue uniforms, rushing to the scene. They immediately began throwing life preservers into the water while a security guard held back concerned onlookers.
The crew worked swiftly to lower a ladder into the narrow, slippery space between the vessel and the pier. Audio from the clip captures the tense atmosphere, with the person filming stating, 'We got officers coming off the boat now.' The team successfully used the life preservers to pull the young girl to safety first.
Emotional Reunion After Harrowing Ordeal
Once rescued, the shivering child was immediately wrapped in a towel and cradled in the arms of a nearby woman. This moment prompted an eruption of joyous screams and applause from the gathered rescuers and witnesses. The focus then turned back to the water, where the courageous mother, wearing a pink bathing suit, was still awaiting help.

In a statement provided to the Daily Mail, Carnival Cruise Line confirmed the sequence of events. 'A 4‑year‑old girl briefly walked away from her mother and fell into the water,' the statement read. 'Her mother immediately jumped in after her. Our ship and security team quickly brought them both to safety, and our medical team evaluated them. Both are doing well.'
The passenger who posted the video online, @chelspiers, explained she began recording after hearing screams. Her caption summarised the frightening event: 'A mama jumped in after her baby, brave woman! Very scary situation but they were rescued quickly!'
In a touching update, the mother reportedly contacted the video's creator to thank the public for their support. She commented that while the family was traumatised by the incident, they were physically fine, adding, 'My kids and I have a long road ahead of us to heal from this traumatic situation.'
