Norwegian Cruise Line has unveiled its newest and largest vessel, the Norwegian Aura, set to launch in 2027 with a host of impressive amenities including five waterslides, a four-deck adventure area, and a panoramic infinity pool. The ship, currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy, promises to redefine luxury cruising with expanded spaces and innovative features.
Norwegian Aura: A Giant Leap in Cruise Design
As the latest addition to the Prima Plus class, Norwegian Aura will be 10 per cent larger than its sister ships, Norwegian Aqua and Norwegian Luna. Measuring almost 1,130 feet in length and 168,000 gross tons, it can accommodate up to 3,840 guests at double occupancy. Its inaugural season will begin in June 2027, homeporting in Miami after a seven-day Mediterranean voyage from Trieste, Italy, to Barcelona, Spain, starting on 21 May 2027.
Ocean Heights: Adventure Zone for All Ages
Spanning decks 18 to 21, the Ocean Heights activity zone is a first-in-the-fleet feature that offers the most waterslides on any NCL ship. Guests can choose from five slides, including Eclipse Racers, the cruise line's first duelling mat racer waterslides stretching over 400 feet. Other highlights are the Aura Free Fall drop-slide with 250 feet of twists, The Wave raft ride, and the guest-favourite The Drop dryslide, which descends 10 decks. Additionally, the area boasts an 82-foot Aura Ropes Course, a 25-foot rock climbing wall, and the Aura Midway, an outdoor amusement park-style zone with carnival games.
Expanded Outdoor Spaces and Luxury Suites
On deck eight, Ocean Boulevard, the signature Prima Class outdoor promenade, will be extended by 11 per cent compared to previous ships, offering more space for activities, sun beds, hot tubs, and a new bar. It also includes dedicated areas for children and teenagers, such as Adventure Alley for kids aged six to 10, Little Explorer's Cove for ages two to six, and a Teen Hangout retreat.
The pool deck on Norwegian Aura will be more than 20 per cent larger than its sister ships, making it the biggest in the fleet. This expansion allows for increased seating capacity, an additional infinity hot tub, a larger LED entertainment screen, and extra lounge areas. The Vibe Beach Club, an adults-only retreat, will be 15 per cent larger, while The Haven By Norwegian, NCL's luxury offering, will feature 30 per cent more suites designed by Italian designer Piero Lissoni. The Haven complex includes a dedicated sundeck with a panoramic infinity pool, two hot tubs, an outdoor sauna, a cold room, and its own bar and lounge.
Artistic Hull Design and Executive Vision
True to NCL's tradition of standout hull art, Norwegian Aura's design by artist Rosie Woods draws inspiration from celestial light and bioluminescent seas, creating a modern interpretation of light interacting with water. Harry Sommer, president and chief executive of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, commented, "Norwegian Aura represents the evolution of Norwegian Cruise Line and the celebration of bringing together families, friends and travellers from around the world. With brilliance and connection at her core, the ship was created to give all guests the freedom to vacation their very own way – offering the chance to exhale, connect and effortlessly escape into the moment."
This launch marks a significant milestone for Norwegian Cruise Line, enhancing its fleet with cutting-edge amenities and spacious designs aimed at providing unforgettable experiences for travellers seeking adventure and relaxation on the high seas.
