As the UK winter tightens its grip with icy temperatures, many Britons are dreaming of a warm escape. The good news is that affordable sunshine is still within reach during January and February, offering a perfect respite from the cold.
Expert Advice: Book Now to Beat the Price Hike
Travel expert Maria Hughes from Good To Go Travel Insurance advises that off-season holidays mean less crowded spaces and a chance for 'relaxed exploration'. She strongly recommends booking getaways for the next couple of months before the end of the year, warning that prices can 'jump as demand peaks'.
Top Destinations for Winter Sun on a Budget
Maria has revealed her list of top destinations for warmer weather in the early months of the year. Topping the chart is Valletta, Malta. With average highs of around 15°C in the cooler months, it offers a significantly milder climate than the UK. The historic capital is packed with sights, and Skyscanner shows return flights can be as low as £35 in February and £36 in January. Accommodation is also affordable, with a two-night hotel stay for two from January 9 available on Booking.com from £178.
In second place is Cape Town, South Africa, where January and February are summer months, promising dry, sunny weather and average highs of 27°C. Flights are more expensive, priced at around £450 for a return trip from London in January.
Taking the third spot is Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, offering Caribbean relaxation with highs of 28°C. Return flights in January start from approximately £480.
The list continues with popular choices that shine in the cooler months:
- Tenerife, Canary Islands (4th): Highs of around 21°C.
