A 15-year-old schoolboy has been tragically stabbed to death at a popular beauty spot in Guildford, Surrey, as detectives launch a major murder investigation to hunt for the culprit. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, with police describing their probe as fast-moving and urgent.
Police Launch Murder Investigation After Evening Attack
Emergency services were called to reports of a stabbing in woodland off Lido Road within Stoke Park at approximately 6.10pm on Monday evening. Despite the immediate efforts of paramedics and members of the public who rushed to assist, the teenage victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The Surrey and Sussex Police major crime team has now taken charge of the investigation, appealing for witnesses to come forward as no arrests have been made so far.
Detective Chief Superintendent Debbie White addressed the public on Tuesday afternoon, urging anyone with information to contact officers as a matter of urgency. She stated: "We appreciate that this incident will have caused shock and concern amongst our local communities, and we want to reassure you that we are working at pace to establish the circumstances of the boy's death, gather as much evidence as possible and identify those responsible."
Forensic Teams Scour Scene as Cordon Remains in Place
A significant police presence remains at the location, with forensic officers meticulously examining the area known as Peacock Wood and Wild Wood Adventure. A police cordon has been established around the wooded section and at the end of the car park on Lido Road, with authorities respectfully requesting that the public stay away to allow the investigation to proceed unhindered.
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Superintendent Andy Jenkins emphasised the dedication of his team, noting: "Our officers are working around the clock to establish the circumstances of this tragic incident, gather as much evidence as possible, and identify and bring those responsible to justice." He added that their primary thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim during this desperately sad time.
Local Community Expresses Alarm and Grief
The attack has deeply unsettled residents in Guildford, an area typically known for its tranquillity. One local woman, who has lived in the town for around 25 years and regularly walks her dog in the park during evening hours, described the incident as "very alarming". She commented: "It's absolutely terrible. I've never heard of anything like this happening in Guildford - particularly in this area. It's just awful. I walk in this park in the evening, even later than 6pm, so it's very alarming as well. It's horrible. I hope the murderer will be caught."
Appeal for Witnesses and Information
Police are particularly keen to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of Lido Road, Parkway, and Stoke Park between 6pm and 6.20pm on Monday 19 January. Investigators are asking if individuals witnessed anyone acting suspiciously or running from the woods around that time. Detective Superintendent Jenkins stressed: "Any piece of information you have, no matter how small, could be significant."
