Armed Police Seal Edinburgh Street After 'Serious' Incident

Armed police have sealed off a residential street in west Edinburgh following a serious incident which left a man reportedly drenched in blood with a severe facial injury.

Eyewitness Describes 'Really Bad' Scene

Emergency services, including armed officers, descended on Drum Brae Drive near Clermiston Drive shortly after 10:30am on Tuesday, 13 January 2026. An eyewitness driving up the road described seeing a man in his early 40s with grey hair who had suffered a significant injury.

"When I was driving up the road I saw a man with a massive slash across his face, he was drenched in blood," the witness told reporters. "He looked to be in his early 40s with grey hair. It looked really bad and serious. Police stopped people from going up and down."

Major Police Presence with Armed Response

The police response was substantial and involved specialist units. A local resident who came upon the scene reported seeing armed officers with what appeared to be riot shields outside a cordoned-off property.

"You can see armed response outside a property that's been cordoned off," the resident said. "I can see them with what appears to be police riot shields outside a property. There are about 10 police vehicles down the stretch of Drum Brae Drive and about a dozen police officers."

Ongoing Investigation and Road Closures

The area remains an active crime scene as investigations continue. Police have taped off a significant section of Drum Brae Drive from Clermiston Drive, restricting all access to the public. The nature of the incident is being treated as serious, with the presence of armed officers indicating the potential threat level assessed by Police Scotland.
