Shocking footage has emerged capturing the moment a group of thugs engaged in a violent street confrontation in Birmingham, wielding machetes and discharging a firearm in broad daylight. The newly released video shows one man firing a gun multiple times at a rival while a passer-by stands perilously close by, highlighting the extreme danger posed to the public.
Details of the Stechford Incident
The incident occurred on Church Lane in Stechford at approximately 3.30pm on March 27 last year. In addition to the firearm, the group was armed with weapons including bats, escalating the confrontation into a chaotic and dangerous scene. Multiple shots were fired during the altercation, resulting in two men being taken to hospital—one with a gunshot wound and another with a laceration.
Police Investigation and Arrests
West Midlands Police promptly launched an investigation, reviewing CCTV footage to identify three vehicles linked to the violent episode. All men involved, who are from Birmingham, were subsequently arrested and charged with serious offences, including attempted murder, violent disorder, and various weapons offences.
Court Proceedings and Sentences
Following a trial at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday, January 16, the five individuals were handed substantial prison sentences totalling more than 50 years. Essa Alam, aged 21, was found guilty of a catalogue of crimes, including two counts of attempted murder, and was jailed for 27 years. Casiim Montgomery, 23, was convicted on charges including possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, receiving a 22-year sentence.
Hamaad Raaja, 18, Mohammed Aadam, 21, and Mohammed Zaheer, 27, were found guilty of violent disorder and possessing weapons. They received sentences ranging from one year and nine months to two-and-a-half years, reflecting their roles in the incident.
