Police Investigate After Man's Body Found at Wolverhampton School

Police have launched an investigation after a man's body was discovered on the grounds of a Wolverhampton secondary school this morning, prompting the immediate closure of the site.

Emergency Services Called to Windmill Crescent

Emergency services were called to Windmill Crescent in the Castlecroft area at approximately 10.40am on Monday, 19 January 2026. The West Midlands Ambulance Service dispatched two ambulances and a paramedic officer to what was initially reported as a medical emergency in a field.

Despite the efforts of medical personnel, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The location was later confirmed to be within the grounds of Smestow Academy.

School Closes as Enquiries Begin

In response to the incident, Smestow Academy announced it would close to all pupils from 1pm today. A notice posted on the school's website cited the closure was "due to an unconnected police incident".

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police stated: "We're currently at Smestow Academy after a discovery of the body in the grounds. Enquiries are now under way to confirm the man's identity and the circumstances around his death. The school is closing to pupils as enquiries get under way."

Police are treating the death as unexplained and are working to establish the full circumstances. Officers have issued a public appeal for information.
