Bolton murder probe after woman found dead in flat

Greater Manchester Police have initiated a murder investigation following the discovery of a woman's body at a residential property in Bolton.

Emergency Response at Kempton Gardens

Officers and paramedics were called to an address on Kempton Gardens, near Halliwell Road, at approximately 10am on Monday, 19 January 2026. The emergency response was prompted by a concern for welfare report relating to the victim.

Despite life-saving attempts by paramedics, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her age has not yet been released by authorities.

Man Arrested and Scene Examination

A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody for questioning. A significant police presence remains at the location as forensic investigations continue.

Forensics officers in white suits have been photographed working inside a ground-floor flat, with a police cordon blocking a walkway outside. CSI vehicles and police cars are present, and officers have been seen removing evidence bags from the property.

Appeal for Information and Community Reassurance

Detective Inspector Louise Kelly of GMP's Major Incident Team stated that identifying the woman and informing her family is the current priority. "Specialist officers will be available to support them throughout this investigation," she said.

While confirming a man is in custody, DI Kelly emphasised that enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances. She sought to reassure local residents, stating, "We understand that an incident of this nature may cause concern within the community however we believe there is no wider risk to the public."
