Bomb disposal experts were urgently deployed to a road in Dublin this morning following the discovery of two suspicious devices inside a bag outside a local shop. The incident prompted a significant security operation, with the Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team called to the scene at approximately 10:10 am after Gardaí requested assistance.
Devices Retrieved and Scene Secured
Following a thorough assessment by the EOD specialists, two devices along with additional equipment were identified and safely removed from Ballyfermot Road for further forensic analysis. The Defence Forces confirmed that the operation has now concluded, and the scene has been handed back to An Garda Síochána. However, the road remains closed as investigations continue, with authorities advising the public to avoid the area.
Community Reaction and Safety Concerns
Local councillor Daithí Doolan, chairperson of the Local Community Safety Partnership, expressed deep concern over the discovery, describing it as alarming and distressing for the entire community. "This is very worrying as it puts the general public at serious risk," Doolan stated, urging vigilance and cooperation with Gardaí. He called on the Minister for Justice, Jim O'Callaghan, to ensure that law enforcement has adequate personnel and resources to combat such criminal activities effectively.Ongoing Investigation and Public Appeal
Gardaí are currently conducting a detailed investigation into the incident, with updates expected to follow. Authorities have appealed to anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing the importance of community support in bringing those responsible to justice. The discovery underscores ongoing security challenges in the region, with officials working to reassure residents while addressing the threats posed by such dangerous items.
