Drug Dealer Sentenced After Reversing Car with Police Officer Clinging to Side
Drug Dealer Jailed for Reversing Car with Officer Clinging On

Bodycam footage has revealed a harrowing incident in which a police officer was forced to cling onto a moving vehicle as a drug dealer attempted to flee arrest. The dramatic event occurred in Suffolk in November last year, leading to significant legal consequences for the perpetrator.

Dramatic Arrest Caught on Camera

In November, Suffolk Police officers responded to a drug-related operation, where they encountered Josef Zielinski, a 33-year-old suspect. As officers approached, Zielinski made a desperate attempt to escape by reversing his car. PC Owen Turner found himself clinging to the side of the vehicle as it moved, while his colleague was knocked over and dragged by the car during the chaotic scene.

Officers Sustain Injuries in Dangerous Encounter

Both police officers involved sustained minor injuries from the incident. PC Turner later recounted the terrifying experience, stating he feared for his life and the safety of his fellow officer during the high-risk confrontation. The bodycam footage, which has been released, vividly captures the moment of peril as Zielinski reversed the car with the officer still attached.

Legal Proceedings and Sentencing

Josef Zielinski faced multiple charges following the incident. He admitted to possession of cocaine with intent to supply, dangerous driving, two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and criminal damage. At Ipswich Crown Court on 6 February, Zielinski was sentenced to four years in prison. Additionally, he received a three-year driving ban as part of his punishment.

Impact on Law Enforcement and Community

This case highlights the dangers that police officers routinely face while performing their duties, particularly in drug-related operations. The sentencing serves as a stern reminder of the serious consequences for those who engage in such reckless behaviour, endangering both law enforcement and public safety. Suffolk Police have emphasised their commitment to pursuing justice in such incidents to protect their officers and the community.
