Tragic Early Morning Assault Claims Life in North Dublin
A man in his 50s has tragically died following a serious assault in the early hours of Saturday morning in Dublin, while two women were rushed to hospital for medical treatment. The incident has prompted a major Garda investigation, with forensic teams preserving multiple scenes as enquiries continue.
Emergency Response to Foster Terrace Incident
At approximately 1:30am on Saturday 31st January 2026, Gardaí and emergency services were called to reports of an assault at Foster Terrace in the Ballybough area of Dublin 3. Upon arrival, officers discovered a man in his 50s with serious injuries. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two women, both aged in their 60s, were also found at the location and were immediately transported to hospital for urgent medical attention. One woman sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries and remains receiving treatment in hospital. The other woman, also with non-life threatening injuries, is awaiting discharge from medical care.
Forensic Investigation Underway
The scene at Foster Terrace and a nearby domestic residence have been preserved by the Garda Technical Bureau for comprehensive forensic examination. The Coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist have been formally notified, with a post-mortem examination to be arranged in due course to determine the exact cause of death.
A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed to lead the investigation, with an incident room established at Mountjoy Garda Station to coordinate the ongoing enquiries. At this time, no arrests have been made in connection with the fatal assault.
