Police Launch Investigation After Knife Incident at Nottingham Primary School
Nottinghamshire Police are conducting a major investigation following a disturbing incident involving knives near a primary school during the busy afternoon pick-up period. The event unfolded on Friday, January 30, 2026, close to Glade Hill Primary and Nursery School in the Bestwood area of Nottingham.
Horrified Parents Witness Alleged Chase
According to police reports and eyewitness accounts, stunned parents who had arrived to collect their children looked on in horror as two men allegedly brandishing knives chased another individual in the vicinity of the school grounds. The incident occurred at approximately 3:00 PM on Hillington Rise, a time when the area is typically bustling with families.
Officers were swiftly dispatched to the scene following multiple emergency calls reporting men seen wielding bladed weapons. A victim, described as a man in his twenties, was subsequently located by police and was found to be unharmed. Nottinghamshire Police have indicated that they believe the victim and the alleged attackers are known to each other.
Detectives Analyse CCTV and Appeal for Witnesses
A dedicated team of detectives is now meticulously analysing closed-circuit television footage from the area and pursuing other lines of inquiry to identify and trace those responsible for the alarming behaviour. In an official statement, the force emphasised its commitment to solving the case.
"Officers also want to speak to any witnesses who have not yet given an account, as well as anyone with relevant footage of the moments before, during and after the incident," a police spokesperson stated.
In a related development, a 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving while disqualified in connection with the ongoing investigation.
Reassurance from Senior Officer Amid Public Concern
Detective Inspector Lisa Jones of Nottinghamshire Police addressed public concerns directly. "Thankfully no one was injured and we believe it is likely the victim and attackers are known to each other," she said. "We also do not believe there was any wider risk to members of the public who were in the area."
However, DI Jones acknowledged the significant impact of the incident, given its location and timing. "We know the incident was witnessed by a number of people as it occurred close to a school at a busy time. I’d like to reassure anyone who was impacted that we are working hard to identify those responsible for this appalling behaviour and patrols have been stepped up over the weekend and into next week."
The detective inspector renewed the appeal for information, urging witnesses to come forward to assist the investigation. "We’d also like to hear from those witnesses so we can gather as much information as we can as our inquiries continue."
