A former teacher at the prestigious Knox Grammar School has been found guilty of a serious child sex offence involving the use of a popular gay dating application. William Roberto Gulson, who previously taught English and drama at the independent boys' school, was convicted of procuring a child for unlawful sexual activity.
Court Proceedings and Guilty Verdict
The case was heard at the Downing Centre Local Court over a three-day hearing last September. During the proceedings, Gulson entered a plea of not guilty to the single charge brought against him. However, on Tuesday, Magistrate Hugh Donnelly delivered a guilty verdict, concluding the legal process that began with charges being laid in 2024.
Details of the Offence
The prosecution successfully argued that Gulson had used the Grindr dating platform to procure or groom a minor for sexual purposes. This conviction highlights growing concerns about online platforms being exploited for predatory behaviour targeting vulnerable young people.
The guilty finding represents a significant development in a case that has drawn attention to safeguarding issues within educational institutions. Knox Grammar School, located in Wahroonga, Sydney, is now confronted with the aftermath of having employed a teacher convicted of such serious offences against children.
