A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted kidnap after three schoolchildren were allegedly approached by a man in Ashington, Northumberland. The incident occurred on Sycamore Street at around 2.20pm on Saturday, November 29.
Police were called to the scene following a report of suspicious activity. Officers found that a man had allegedly approached three school-aged children who were walking together. The suspect was arrested at the scene and has since been released on bail with strict conditions not to enter Ashington.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: 'Shortly after 2.20pm on Saturday, we received a report of suspicious activity on Sycamore Street in Ashington. Officers attended where it was reported a man had approached three school-aged children who were walking together.'
The spokesperson added: 'A 35-year-old man was arrested at the scene in connection with the report on suspicion of attempted kidnap. He has since been released on bail pending further enquiries, with strict conditions not to enter Ashington. An investigation is under way and additional patrols are being carried out. Anyone with concerns is encouraged to speak with an officer on duty.'
