Police in Texas have arrested a man wanted in connection with the suspicious death of a 37-year-old woman, with the suspect taken into custody while wearing a sweatshirt bearing a deeply unsettling message.
Chilling Arrest and Charges
Kruz Dean Wanser was apprehended by authorities after being sought for his alleged involvement in the death of Margaret Pennington. The 37-year-old woman was discovered deceased inside a residence in Azle, Texas, on 11 January 2026.
In a photograph released by the Azle Police Department, Wanser is seen wearing a purple sweatshirt with white lettering that reads, "I will put you in a trunk and help people look for you. Stop playing with me." The arresting officers noted the garment's menacing slogan.
Ongoing Investigation into a Woman's Death
Pennington's cause of death remains undetermined as the investigation continues. The police have classified the case as a "suspicious death" investigation. Wanser had been publicly named as a "wanted fugitive" and a person of interest just one day after Pennington's body was found.
The Azle Police Department, coordinating with multiple agencies including the Texas Rangers and U.S. Marshals, confirmed Wanser faces four charges. These include tampering with evidence with intent to impair a human corpse, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, and a parole violation warrant.
Remembering Margaret Pennington
An online obituary paints a picture of a woman with a "creative and sentimental spirit." Margaret Pennington is remembered as someone who found comfort in baking and crocheting, enjoyed music, and had a keen interest in genealogy. She loved collecting vintage treasures and valued time with friends and family.
"Though small in stature, she had a strong presence and a way of leaving an impression on those who knew her," the tribute reads, highlighting her spunky personality and quick wit.
The police had offered a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to Wanser. It is currently unclear if he has legal representation. The Independent has contacted the Azle Police Department for further comment as the probe unfolds.
