A comprehensive murder investigation has been initiated by Northumbria Police following the tragic death of a woman who was assaulted in a bar in North Shields, Tyneside.
Fatal Assault at Charlie's Bar
The victim, identified locally as 40-year-old Lisa Denton, was reportedly punched in the face during an incident at Charlie's Bar on Russell Street in North Shields on Saturday night. Emergency services were contacted shortly after 10pm following reports of an altercation at the location.
Ms Denton was transported to hospital in a critical condition and received intensive medical care. Despite the dedicated efforts of hospital staff, she succumbed to her injuries a few hours later.

Lisa Denton's sister, Gillian, took to social media in the early hours of Sunday to appeal for information about the attack. In her emotional post, she wrote: 'Tonight between 9.30 and 12pm my sister was attacked and punched in the face at Charlie's bar north shields. She is in intensive care fighting for her life. If anyone knows anything please contact us or the police...... let's get this person before he does it to any other female.'
Later on Sunday, Gillian's fiancé, Dean, confirmed the devastating news of Lisa's passing in another social media update. He expressed: 'Our family is devastated to share that our Lisa sadly passed away from the injuries she sustained in a horrific attack at Charlies North Shield. She was deeply loved, and her loss has left a hole in our hearts that cannot be put into words. We are grateful for the love and support we've already received.'
Police Investigation and Arrests
Northumbria Police have confirmed that a male teenager has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident. Additionally, a woman in her 50s has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. Both individuals remain in police custody as inquiries continue.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Atherton, who is leading the investigation, stated: 'Our thoughts remain firmly with the family and loved ones of the woman who has died. We will continue to provide them with any support they need following this tragic incident.'
