Nursery Worker Admits 26 New Offences Including Upskirting

Vincent Chan, a 45-year-old former nursery worker, has pleaded guilty to a further 26 serious offences, including the upskirting of young girls in a classroom setting. This admission adds to his existing convictions for molesting children as young as three and four years old while employed at a nursery in London.

Guilty Pleas to Multiple Charges

Appearing via video link from HMP Pentonville at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court on Thursday, Chan entered guilty pleas to a range of charges. These include 10 counts of taking indecent photographs of children, six charges of outraging public decency, one count of sexual assault on a female, and nine counts of voyeurism.

Details of the Offences

Through his guilty pleas, Chan has admitted to filming up the skirts of children as they sat at tables in a classroom. Police investigations also uncovered images showing Chan exposing himself in a classroom back in 2017. Additionally, videos believed to depict Chan engaging in a solo sex act were recovered.

Chan has further confessed to a prolonged campaign of voyeurism that spanned from 2011 to 2023. This pattern of behaviour underscores the systematic nature of his crimes over more than a decade.

Background and Previous Convictions

Chan is already facing a substantial prison sentence for molesting girls aged three and four while working at the Bright Horizons nursery in West Hampstead, north London. He filmed himself carrying out this abuse during naptime at the nursery and also admitted to downloading thousands of indecent images of children.

The new charges bring the total number of offences Chan has admitted to 52. He is scheduled to be sentenced for all these crimes on 12 February, with expectations of a lengthy custodial term given the severity and volume of the offences.

Impact and Legal Proceedings

The case has highlighted significant safeguarding concerns within childcare settings and the devastating impact of such crimes on young victims and their families. The Metropolitan Police's thorough investigation played a crucial role in uncovering the full extent of Chan's activities, leading to these additional charges.

As the sentencing date approaches, authorities and the public await the court's decision, which will determine the final consequences for Chan's extensive criminal conduct. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and robust protective measures in environments caring for vulnerable children.
