Police Storm Manchester Airport Plane to Arrest Coercive Controller

This is the dramatic moment police officers stormed a plane at Manchester Airport to arrest a man after his sickening abuse was exposed on CCTV. Callum Coady, 27, was detained onboard the aircraft following an incident where he threw a glass of prosecco in his partner's face and threatened to kill her.

A Pattern of Coercive Control

During their relationship, Coady forced Daisy Martin to delete her social media accounts, cut contact with friends and family, and controlled how she dressed. The abuse lasted for more than a year before the airport incident in August 2023 brought it to light.

Footage released by Greater Manchester Police shows the moment of Coady's arrest. In the clip, he can be heard exclaiming "oh my goodness" and "Jesus Christ" in exasperation as police explain he is being removed from the flight for making threats to kill.

The Airport Confrontation

On August 19, 2023 at Manchester Airport, Coady became aggressive after seeing a message on Facebook. CCTV captured him shouting at Daisy and throwing the drink in her face before making the death threat. Airport staff immediately intervened and contacted authorities.

As arresting officers placed handcuffs on him, Coady asked, "do I look like I'd kill someone?" The clip continues with an audibly irate Coady complaining in a raised voice, "I'm missing my flight now!"

Legal Consequences and Victim Impact

Coady, of Larwood Avenue in Heaton Mersey, Stockport, pleaded guilty to coercive control and was sentenced at Manchester Magistrates' Court to 16 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months. He received a five-year restraining order, must work with probation services regarding future relationships, and must pay £200 in victim compensation.

Daisy Martin has been praised for her exceptional bravery in reporting the abuse that led to his conviction. During police interviews, she disclosed the ongoing abuse and showed officers messages from Coady. Police explained that what she described amounted to coercive and controlling behavior, something Daisy said she had not fully recognized.

Lasting Trauma

In her victim impact statement, Daisy described the profound impact: "After everything I went through, it has had a profound impact on my life. I struggle daily to understand people and often overthink even small interactions."

She continued: "I question whether people will treat me with respect after trusting someone who changed completely once I let him close and controlled how I behaved, thought and lived. What happened has made me extremely wary of relationships and friendships."

"He made me forget what love should feel like, and I struggle to believe anyone could genuinely want something healthy with me. I feel anxious going places in case I see him, and I still look over my shoulder. My sense of safety is gone."

Daisy added that the experience has deeply affected her trust and identity, leaving her feeling unlovable and damaging her self-confidence. She noted she now gets angry more easily and snaps at small things, while constantly questioning herself in social interactions.
