The brother of the notorious 'Suffolk Strangler' has voiced his deep concerns that the convicted serial killer may have claimed more victims than those currently known to authorities.
Guilty Plea in Decades-Old Murder Case
Serial killer Steve Wright, aged 67, pleaded guilty on Monday to the murder of 17-year-old Victoria Hall from Trimley St Mary, Suffolk. This crime occurred over twenty-five years ago, in 1999. Wright also admitted to one count of kidnap related to the teenager and an additional charge of attempted kidnap involving a 22-year-old woman the night before Victoria's abduction.
Existing Whole Life Sentence
Wright is already serving a whole life term imposed in 2008 after being found guilty of murdering five women in the Ipswich area between October and December 2006. Those victims were Tania Nicol, 19, Gemma Adams, 25, Anneli Alderton, 24, Paula Clennell, 24, and Annette Nicholls, 29.
Brother's Public Appeal for Truth
Keith Wright, Steve Wright's 57-year-old younger brother, has now spoken out, expressing his fear that there could be additional victims. In an interview with The Sun, he stated: "It's time he did the right thing and told the police everything. There's still so much we don't know, so many unanswered questions."
He continued with a direct appeal: "How many more victims are there? Only he knows the answers and it's time he came forward. It's time we got the truth."
Details of Victoria Hall's Murder
During court proceedings, it was revealed that Victoria Hall was last seen alive in the early hours of Sunday, 19 September 1999, in the quiet village of Trimley St Mary. She had left home on the evening of Saturday, 18 September 1999, to enjoy a night out with a friend at the Bandbox nightclub in Bent Hill, Felixstowe.
The pair remained at the club until approximately 1am on Sunday morning. After leaving, they walked back to their village before separating around 2.20am, with Victoria being just yards away from her home when they parted.
Discovery and Investigation
Victoria's parents raised the alarm the following morning when they discovered she had not returned home. Tragically, five days later, the teenager's naked body was found in a ditch beside a field by a dog walker.
In September 2019, Suffolk Police announced that the case was being "fully reinvestigated" by a new team of detectives. Wright was arrested as part of this inquiry in July 2021, rearrested in December 2023, and formally charged in May 2024.
Court Appearance and Sentencing
Wright appeared emotionless as he admitted to the murder on Monday. It was noted that Mrs Hall, Victoria's mother, passed away in December last year, before her daughter's killer could be brought to justice.
Steve Wright is scheduled to be sentenced at the Central Criminal Court on Friday, adding this conviction to his existing whole life order for the previous murders.
