NYPD Arrests Suspect in Gang-Related Shooting That Killed 7-Month-Old Baby
Suspect Arrested in Gang Shooting That Killed Infant in Brooklyn

In a tragic incident that has shocked New York City, a gunman has been arrested and charged with murder after allegedly shooting and killing a seven-month-old baby girl in broad daylight on a Brooklyn street. The NYPD has identified the suspect as Amuri Greene, aged 21, who was riding on the back of a moped when he opened fire, striking the infant in a horrifying act of violence.

Details of the Fatal Shooting

The baby, named Kaori, was being pushed in a stroller by her 20-year-old mother, Lianna Charles-Moore, near the intersection of Humboldt and Moore Street in the East Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn. Suddenly, gunshots rang out, causing chaos and panic. Charles-Moore quickly ran into a nearby bodega for safety, but when she pulled back the stroller's visor, she discovered that Kaori had suffered a fatal head wound.

Despite being rushed to the hospital, Kaori was tragically pronounced dead just 20 minutes after the shooting, leaving her family and community devastated. Surveillance footage captured the heart-wrenching moment when Charles-Moore realized her baby had been shot, showing her jumping up and down in agony with her hands to her head.

Arrest and Charges Announced

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch revealed on Thursday that Greene, who is currently hospitalized, sought medical care shortly after the incident and is now facing serious charges. 'A 21-year-old male, Amuri Greene, the trigger puller, who is currently in the hospital, will be arrested and charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder,' Tisch stated emphatically.

Commissioner Tisch expressed profound sorrow over the loss, noting, 'A seven-month-old child was shot and killed, caught in an act of violence on a sidewalk where she should have been safe.' She also confirmed that police have identified the second suspect, the moped driver, but are withholding his name from the public at this time.

Gang-Related Investigation Unfolds

Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny provided further insight into the investigation, indicating that the shooting is believed to be gang-related. 'Amuri Greene has no arrest history in New York City,' Kenny explained. 'We know that he is a gang associate out of the Marcy houses, and at this point right now there is a gang in the Bushwick houses called MOE, and we're looking to see the possible connection between a beef between the Marcy houses and Bushwick houses.'

Authorities are also investigating whether Kaori's father was the intended target of the shooting. Kenny noted that while the father is not listed in criminal databases as an MOE gang member, he has associations with some MOE members, and his location at the time is under scrutiny.

Chaotic Aftermath and Family's Anguish

Following the shooting, Greene and the unidentified moped driver attempted to flee the scene but crashed into an oncoming car just two blocks away. The impact was so severe that one of the suspects was thrown from the vehicle, with his shoes flying off his feet in the chaos.

The family initially mistook the gunshots for fireworks, but police confirmed that two men on a moped had sprayed bullets on the street. Charles-Moore recounted to the New York Post the harrowing moments after the barrage stopped, describing how she found her daughter lying with blood dripping from her head. 'When I looked to my left, my daughter was just there, lying there. She was shot in the head. She was just bleeding. It was just too much,' she said, her voice filled with grief.

Adding to the tragedy, Kaori had just learned to say 'mama,' and her brother, who was grazed by a bullet on his back, has been asking for his sister ever since the fateful incident. The community is now left mourning the loss of an innocent life, as police continue their investigation into this senseless act of violence.
