Three people have been formally charged with murder following the tragic discovery of a 37-year-old man's body inside a wheelie bin in Coventry. The victim, identified as Thomas Niven, was found deceased at approximately 5pm last Friday in Cash's Park, located off Daimler Road in the city.
Charges and Court Proceedings
Midlands Police have confirmed that Tammy Sturdy, aged 45, Camron Sturdy, aged 21, and Shane Turkington, aged 37, all residents of Coventry, have been charged with murder in connection with this case. The three accused individuals have been remanded in custody and are scheduled to appear at Coventry Magistrates Court on Thursday morning for their initial hearing.
Family's Heartbreaking Statement
Specially trained police officers are providing ongoing support to Mr Niven's grieving family, who have described themselves as 'devastated' and 'in shock' following his death. In an emotional statement released on Tuesday, the family paid tribute to Thomas, portraying him as a loving and caring individual who was a pillar of strength for his relatives.
The statement read: 'Sadly our youngest son, stepson, brother, brother-in-law, nephew and uncle, Tom has been tragically taken away from all who dearly loved him. As a family we are all in shock and are devastated, our hearts are in pieces at the loss of Tom in such a cruel way.'
They added: 'He was full of laughter and had such a vibe for life, he had a charm that would lift a dull spirit, he loved his music and playing pool. He loved small harmless pranks but could never keep a straight face and would break out into laughter.'
Police Investigation Continues
The investigation began when police were alerted by a member of the public who discovered Mr Niven's body inside a green wheelie bin at Cash's Park last Friday evening. Authorities have since erected a police tent at the scene as part of their forensic examination.
Midlands Police have stated they are 'continuing to build a picture of what happened' and are urging anyone with information about the circumstances surrounding Mr Niven's death to come forward and contact investigators immediately.
The family concluded their statement with a plea for justice: 'We are so proud to have had Tom in our lives, his life has tragically been cut short in the most cruel way. Tom will forever be missed. Justice will be done. We love you Tom, rest easy.'
