A tragic incident occurred at a hotel in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where a four-year-old boy drowned while on a family vacation. Lauchlin McMann, from Palmyra, Maine, was pronounced dead on Monday after being pulled from a swimming pool at North Beach Plantation on April 21.
Details of the Incident
According to The Post and Courier, security footage reviewed by police showed Lauchlin 'flailing' in the pool at around 7:53 p.m., surrounded by other children who were playing. He then sank underwater, and an employee pulled him out approximately four minutes later. North Myrtle Beach Police arrived within minutes, and a bystander was performing CPR on the boy. He was subsequently transported to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center by emergency services. An investigation into the drowning remains ongoing.
Family's Grief and Community Support
Lauchlin's grandmother, Dawn McMann, wrote on a GoFundMe page: 'What was meant to be a joyful time together turned into a heartbreaking tragedy. Lauchlin, our sweet and loving little boy, was involved in a terrible accident.' According to the fundraiser, Lauchlin was taken to a local hospital before being airlifted to a children's hospital in South Carolina, where he was surrounded by family and grandparents who flew in to be by his side. 'Lauchlin was truly cherished by everyone who knew him. His bright spirit and loving nature touched so many lives. Today, our hearts are shattered as we share that Lauchlin has earned his wings,' the fundraiser continued. Dawn McMann described the boy's passing as 'unimaginable' and said the family is 'struggling to come to terms with it.' The fundraiser had garnered over $44,500 in donations as of Thursday evening. Lauchlin is survived by his parents, Ashley and Justin, and his siblings, Parker, 8, and Hudson, 7.
