Bodies of Two Young Men Found in Snowdonia Following Extensive Search
North Wales Police have confirmed the tragic discovery of two bodies in the Snowdonia mountain range after a large-scale search operation. The men, aged 19 and 20, were reported missing on Wednesday, prompting an immediate response from emergency services.
Challenging Conditions Hamper Rescue Efforts
Mountain rescue teams, including volunteers from Llanberis, faced severe winter conditions as they scoured Yr Wyddfa, also known as Snowdon, through snow and ice. The search began on Wednesday and continued into the early hours of Thursday, resuming at 8am that day. Despite their determined efforts, the outcome was not as hoped.
Jurgen Dissmann, chair of the Llanberis mountain rescue team, expressed heartfelt condolences to the families, stating, "Volunteers searched across challenging mountain terrain in snow and ice, working long hours through the night in difficult weather." He praised the multi-agency operation but noted the deep sadness at the result.
Police Confirm Details and Notify Families
A spokesperson for North Wales Police said on Saturday that both men were located and recovered, with their families informed. The coroner has been notified, and the police have requested privacy for the grieving families during this difficult time. The search was coordinated after concerns for the men's welfare were reported on February 18.
This incident follows a similar tragedy last June, when two sisters died after being pulled from water on the Watkin Path leading to Snowdon's summit, highlighting the ongoing risks in the area.
