The first image has been released of a 78-year-old widow who was tragically mauled to death by two out-of-control dogs inside her own home. Carol Hall died after the animals attacked her in Bilston, Wolverhampton, late on Wednesday night. The dogs, whose specific breed has not been disclosed by authorities, were destroyed at the scene by emergency responders.
Arrest Made in Connection with Fatal Incident
A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control and causing injury resulting in death. West Midlands Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the horrific attack.
Heartfelt Tributes Pour In for 'Diamond' Neighbour
Tributes have flooded social media for Mrs Hall, whose husband Dennis passed away several years ago. Friend David Williams posted a cherished photograph of Mrs Hall with her pet dog on Facebook, writing: ‘Sad to hear my good friend Carol Hall has passed. We had loads of laughs at The Village with you and Den. You are together again. Rest peacefully now my friend.’
Another close friend, Elizabeth Wallace, expressed her grief online: ‘RIP Carol. Such a lovely, caring lady. May you get the best bed in heaven.’ Relatives visited the scene of the attack today but stated it was ‘too soon’ to discuss the tragedy publicly.
Neighbours Describe a 'Kind-Hearted' Community Pillar
Neighbours have uniformly described Mrs Hall as a ‘diamond’ who had resided in her ground-floor housing association flat for many years. One local resident shared: ‘Everyone around here knew her so well. She was tiny but had bright red dyed hair, you couldn’t miss her. She was so kind-hearted and will be hugely missed by everyone. It’s an absolute tragedy.’
Timeline of the Tragic Event
Paramedics rushed to the ground-floor flat on Willis Pearson Avenue, Wolverhampton, at approximately 11.30pm on Wednesday following emergency reports that an elderly woman was seriously injured. Mrs Hall, a retired lock factory worker, was pronounced dead at the scene despite the efforts of medical personnel.
Neighbours revealed that Mrs Hall lived in the flat with a man believed to be a relative, who owned two 'huge' and powerful dogs. Sam Wright, 64, a neighbour, stated that Mrs Hall 'would not have stood a chance' during the violent attack. He last saw her around 3pm on Wednesday when she returned from a shopping trip via taxi.
Concerns Over the Dogs' Behaviour
Mr Wright described the two dogs as 'Rotweiller-like' and exceptionally powerful. ‘They were really big dogs,’ he explained. ‘The other day a bloke was walking down the road with his kid and they turned back because of the dogs. I used to see the guy who lived with Carol walking them, but it was more like them walking him—they would drag him down the road. He had no control over them whatsoever.’
The neighbour added that the dogs had been at the property for about two to three months. ‘The younger guy used to come and go. Carol would not have stood a chance. I saw her daughter outside earlier and she was telling someone "My mum's been killed by the dogs". It's horrendous to think about. There's no way she could have fended them off because they were so big.’
Remembering Carol Hall
Mrs Hall was remembered as a slight woman, approximately 5 feet tall, with distinctive dyed red hair. She had recently given up driving, having previously used a disability car. A long-time resident, she worked at a lock factory in Bilston before retiring years ago.
Mr Wright further noted: ‘I didn't hear anything last night but when I woke up this morning I saw the windows smashed, so that's probably where they tried to get in. I never saw her walking the dogs, they were way too big for her to handle.’
Community Mourning and Floral Tributes
Two ground-floor living room windows at the property were boarded up following the incident, with flowers and cards left at the scene as a mark of respect. One poignant card read: ‘Carol, may you rest in eternal peace. A massive part of the community taken too soon. Thoughts go out to all your family.’
