Woman Stabs Intruder in Chicken Coop Home During Alleged Burglary Attempt

In a bizarre and violent incident in rural West Virginia, a woman residing inside a chicken coop stabbed a female intruder who allegedly forced her way into the makeshift dwelling with the intent to assault her. The brazen trespasser fled the scene in agony with a stab wound, according to police reports from the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office.

Disturbance on Big Sandy Road

Deputies were dispatched to Big Sandy Road in Clendenin, West Virginia, on March 31 following reports of a disturbance inside a chicken coop that serves as the home for Ashley Thompson, 35, and her father, James Hammack, 58. The sheriff's office stated that Thompson was asleep inside the coop when Anna Groves, 49, and Jason Groves attempted to force their way inside, threatening to kill her during the confrontation.

Hammack recalled hearing Anna tell his child, "I'm going to kill you," as she walked back to the coop that day, police added. In response to the alleged threats and break-in, Thompson wielded a knife and stabbed Anna Groves, causing both Anna and Jason to flee the property immediately.

Arrest and Charges Filed

Anna Groves made a run for it after the stabbing but later checked into CAMC General Hospital in Charleston for treatment of her wound. The Charleston Police Department notified the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office, leading deputies to the hospital where they arrested Groves. During questioning, Groves admitted to police that she did not intend to kill Thompson but merely wanted to "beat her a**" over money she claims was stolen from her.

Groves described the moment she broke into the chicken coop home, telling officers she "felt a punch and piercing pain" and realized she had been stabbed. She turned herself in on April 1 and was charged with felony burglary. Following her arraignment in Kanawha County Magistrate Court, she was released on a $2,500 personal recognizance bond, as confirmed by the department.

No Charges for Homeowner

The Kanawha County Sheriff's Office has clarified that no charges are being filed against Ashley Thompson in connection with the stabbing of Anna Groves. It remains unclear whether Thompson and her father were living alongside chickens inside the coop or residing there alone. The relationship between Anna and Jason Groves is also ambiguous, though public records list Jason as her son. Authorities have not disclosed if Jason is facing any charges related to the incident.

Social Media Rants After Release

After being released from custody, Anna Groves took to Facebook, appearing to rant about her recent encounter with the law. On Monday, she shared a post that read, "She's a little bit f*** up, with a heavy soul and a battered heart." Another post stated, "Maybe I wasn't meant to be the girl who gets a peaceful life." On April 3, she posted further, expressing frustration: "Since everything has happened I did nothing wrong social media has costed me everything I miss my babies so freaking much this should of never happened I will have them back soon I love you kids anyone [sic] knows me this is bull."

The Daily Mail has reached out to Groves, Thompson, and the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office for additional comments, but responses are pending as the investigation continues.
