Couple Arrested After Mid-Flight Incident
A Connecticut couple, who were arrested for allegedly performing a sexual act on a JetBlue aeroplane in front of a mother and her children, have unexpectedly seen the criminal charges against them dropped. Trista L. Reilly, 43, and Christopher D. Arnold, 42, from Danbury, were taken into custody in July after their flight from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport landed in Florida.
Charges Dropped Without Explanation
The pair had each been facing two felony counts of lewd and lascivious exhibition in the presence of minors. However, Florida authorities decided to drop all charges last week. The specific reasons for this decision have not been publicly disclosed, according to reports.
The incident unfolded on JetBlue Flight 163 on July 19. Court documents indicate that a travelling mother alerted a flight attendant to the couple's behaviour. The crew member then reportedly observed Ms Reilly in a compromising position, described as 'face down on Mr Arnold's lap'.
Airline's Swift Response and Lasting Ban
This prompt observation led the crew to contact law enforcement on the ground. The couple was arrested at approximately 11:30 am shortly after the plane landed. They were later released on their own recognisance and had entered not guilty pleas in August.
JetBlue issued a strong statement following the event, labelling the alleged behaviour as 'completely unacceptable' and confirming it is 'not tolerated' by the airline. A spokesperson said, 'Immediately upon receiving the report, our crewmembers acted swiftly to engage JetBlue’s security team and law enforcement. We are fully cooperating with the investigation and these customers are no longer welcome to fly JetBlue.'
