Armed Police Incident in Wrexham Prompts School Lockdown

A large police presence, including firearms officers, was deployed in Wrexham city centre on Thursday following reports of suspicious behaviour. The incident began shortly after 8.41am when members of the public raised concerns about an individual.

North Wales Police conducted searches in the area to identify the person. As a precaution, Ysgol Plas Coch, a local school, was placed into a partial lockdown on police advice. The school confirmed that all pupils and staff were safe inside the building during the procedure.

The individual was later located near Maelor Hospital and spoken to by officers. Police confirmed that the concerns were “well-intentioned but unfounded.” Assistant Chief Constable Nicholas Evans acknowledged that the increased police presence may have been unsettling but reassured the public that the matter had been resolved.
