Alan Carr's Celebrity Traitors Blunder: Comedian Spills Victory Secret Just Hours After Filming
Alan Carr Reveals Celebrity Traitors Win Hours After Filming

Alan Carr's Traitors Triumph Spoiled by Accidental Revelation

Comedian Alan Carr has confessed to an embarrassing blunder, revealing he accidentally disclosed his victory on the BBC's Celebrity Traitors just twelve hours after filming the final episode. The 49-year-old entertainer, who served as a 'traitor' in the popular reality series that aired last autumn, admitted he "felt so stupid" after the secret slipped out prematurely.

Dramatic Finale Victory Over Faithful Contestants

Carr secured a dramatic win in the tense finale, triumphing over faithful contestants historian David Olusoga and actor Nick Mohammed. The celebrity edition of the hit show, hosted by Claudia Winkleman, follows contestants as they attempt to identify the murderous traitors among them while completing challenges to build a cash prize pot.

The Moment the Secret Slipped Out

Speaking on BBC Radio 2's The Scott Mills Breakfast Show, Carr explained how the revelation occurred during filming for Channel 4's gameshow Secret Genius. "The cameraman goes 'congratulations', and I go 'how did you know I won?'" Carr recounted. "He said 'I didn't, I was just joking, just teasing'. So I told them within 12 hours that I had won The Traitors."

The comedian described his immediate attempt to backtrack, saying: "I went, 'haha, got you!' – I had to backtrack, because you can't tell anything. But I did well, and I didn't want to spoil it."

Underestimating His Traitors Success

Carr revealed he had initially doubted his ability to succeed on the show, with even his agent predicting an early exit. "He said, 'Alan, you'll be out first week with your motor mouth, you aren't going to last'," Carr recalled. "Then it kept going on and on. I thought I would be gone on day two."

Despite being a traitor alongside fellow celebrities, Carr managed to remain largely under the radar throughout the competition, ultimately being crowned winner during the series finale. The celebrity version saw traitors eliminate numerous faithfuls including singer Paloma Faith, actress Celia Imrie, comedian Lucy Beaumont, and Olympic diver Tom Daley.

Increased Recognition Following Traitors Success

Carr also discussed how appearing on the cultural phenomenon has increased his public recognition, sharing an amusing anecdote from a recent holiday to Mexico. "I'm never spotted over there, and I was on the way to the pool and I heard this woman from the balcony, 'I see you, traitor. Don't you hide your face from me. Who are you going to murder today?'"

The comedian joked about the potential misunderstanding, saying: "People who don't know I was in The Traitors must think I'm a serial killer." The show, filmed in the Scottish Highlands, has become a ratings winner for the BBC and a significant cultural touchstone.

Maintaining the Secret Until Broadcast

Carr's accidental revelation highlights the challenges contestants face in keeping results secret from the highly anticipated reality series. The full interview detailing his Traitors experience and subsequent slip-up can be heard on Friday's edition of The Scott Mills Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2.
