Former Love Island contestant Amy Hart has disclosed that her newborn son has been named Dexter, concluding what she described as a 'stressful' two-week period of deliberation over the perfect moniker. The 33-year-old reality television personality and her husband Sam Rason, aged 39, who are already parents to three-year-old Stanley, announced on March 7 that she had given birth to another boy.
Family Involvement in the Naming Process
Taking to Instagram on Monday, Amy shared an endearing video clip of Stanley gently cradling his younger brother, alongside a photograph of Dexter wearing a baby grow adorned with his name. In the accompanying caption, she elaborated on the intricate naming journey, writing: 'Dexter Rason✨ (or as he has been called in the last 2 days, Dex, Dexy, Dexington, Deck Star, Dexy Boy or the baby….still, hard to shake after 2 weeks)'.
She further explained: 'Well, that was stressful. Got our long list down to a final two, mum added in a third, Stanley chose the other name and then told everyone at David Lloyd that he was called Dexter, then once we'd decided on Dexter, he started calling him the other name again.'
Inspiration Behind the Name Dexter
Amy revealed that the name Dexter was inspired by her affection for the 2011 film One Day, which was later adapted into a 2024 Netflix series, where the primary male character is named Dexter Mayhew. She wrote: 'Years ago when we watched One Day I said 'I really like the name Dexter, especially shortened to Dexy, like Dexy's midnight runners, like my fave song Come On Eileen.''
The new mother also noted that Dexter was a relatively uncommon suggestion, mentioning: 'Thanks for all your suggestions! So many lovely names, Dexter only came up once in a comment and once in a DM!'
Announcement of the Birth
When announcing the birth of her new baby earlier this month, Amy posted the news online, accompanied by a tender snapshot of the infant meeting his 'besotted' older brother. In the post, Dexter could be seen being cradled by his adoring parents in the hospital before being subsequently taken home.
Amy penned: 'Another Beautiful Boy To Love. He is just gorgeous and we are so in love already! Fortunately, our day walking around the farm may have brought him early, as at 8lbs 6, not sure three more weeks were needed.'
She added: 'Stanley is completely besotted with his little brother and can’t wait for him to join his Basketball team So much to catch you all up on, as always it’s never drama free! Sam, Amy, Stanley and……NoNameYet xxx.'
Congratulatory Messages from Friends and Fans
Fans and famous friends were swift to share their congratulations, with Coronation Street's Samia Longchambon gushing: 'Congratulations Amy! Beautiful news and a gorgeous baby boy'. Charlotte Crosby added: 'Congratulations, so beautiful' and Gogglebox's Joe Bagg said: 'OMG congratulations Amy'.
Pregnancy Journey and Previous Miscarriages
Throughout the pregnancy, the reality star detailed how anxiety has significantly impacted her, after revealing she was expecting again following two miscarriages. Amy announced last year that she was set to welcome another baby with her husband Sam, and admitted at the time it had been a 'difficult' journey to conceive.
Speaking to Daily Mail, Amy opened up about the heartache surrounding her two previous miscarriages, confessing it meant she and Sam struggled to celebrate when they saw their positive pregnancy test this time around. The mother-to-be added that they have been attempting to 'carry on with their lives as normal' and 'not think about it much,' admitting that the miscarriages also meant that Sam has been more 'anxious' throughout her pregnancy.
Amy also addressed mum-shaming trolls who have criticised her parenting, insisting she is going to 'trust herself' more when her second child is born. She said: 'We've obviously had two miscarriages before. So when we found out we were pregnant with Stanley, it was very unplanned.'
She continued: 'So we were very like, "oh God, let's take another test, we don't know". And then when we got pregnant in December, we really just like laughed because we were like, "oh my God, I can't believe this first month of trying. This is so funny. I can't believe this has happened". Then I had a miscarriage.'
'Then our next time we got pregnant, we like we're like "woohoo", I actually got the video of us being like "woop", because we're not we're not open mouth criers over the over the tests.'
'So then had a miscarriage again, and then the third time we got the positive pregnancy test and we were just like "okay" like just move on, just carry on with our lives as normal. I just try not to like think about it too much.'
'Sam is very excited, but he's quite anxious as well. He's like, "until the baby's here, I can't quite relax".'
Despite their fears, Amy shared that her son Stanley was 'really excited' he is going to be a big brother, and aside from nausea during her first trimester, she has not experienced any major symptoms during her pregnancy.
