Apple Martin, the 21-year-old daughter of Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, has taken to social media to firmly deny widespread rumours alleging she was expelled from school for bullying another student. The young model and student issued a direct statement on Instagram this week, labelling the claims as "completely false" and noting how the narrative had spiralled out of control online.
Social Media Statement Sets Record Straight
In a now-deleted Instagram story posted on Monday 16 February, Martin addressed her followers with a clear message. "Just a quick little message from myself," she wrote. "Hi! I didn't wanna respond, but this narrative is completely false and has gotten so out of hand. I have never been expelled from any school, especially not for bullying anyone."
Martin acknowledged that not everyone might like her, stating "I completely understand ppl not liking me, and that is OK! The internet is a place where ppl can share their opinions." She emphasised her character, adding "I am not that type of person, and anyone who is close to me knows that," before concluding her statement with a heart emoji.
Rumours Originated from Debutante Event
The unverified claims about Martin's alleged bullying behaviour began circulating online approximately two years after her appearance at the prestigious Paris Le Bal des Débutantes in 2024. This annual fashion event traditionally introduces twenty young women aged between 16 and 20 into society, with Martin having made her debut there.
Speculation intensified after French magazine Paris Match shared footage from the event showing Martin apparently stepping into a photograph being taken of fellow debutante Loppin de Montmort, forcing de Montmort to move aside. Social media users quickly branded Martin a "mean girl" based on this brief clip, despite lacking any broader context or evidence.
Fellow Debutante Comes to Martin's Defence
Before Martin issued her own denial, she received public support from Loppin de Montmort, who directly contradicted the negative characterisation. Speaking to People magazine, de Montmort stated unequivocally: "[Apple's] genuinely the nicest girl ever. She really doesn't deserve an ounce of what she's getting. She was the nicest girl ever towards not only me but all the debs!"
This defence from someone directly involved in the incident that sparked the rumours adds significant weight to Martin's claims of innocence regarding bullying allegations.
Educational Background and Future Aspirations
Contrary to the expulsion rumours, Martin is currently studying at Nashville's prestigious Vanderbilt University, where she is due to graduate this May with a degree in law, history and society. She previously graduated from Los Angeles' Crossroads School in 2022, completing her secondary education without incident.
In a recent interview with Vogue, Martin revealed her ambitions to follow in her mother's footsteps by pursuing acting after graduation. "I love dancing and I love acting," she told the publication. "My dream is to act." This announcement comes as she prepares to complete her university studies and embark on her professional career.
Family Background and Personal Life
Apple Martin was born in May 2004 to Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, who had married in December 2003. The couple welcomed their second child, Moses, two years later in April 2006. After ten years of marriage, Paltrow and Martin announced their "conscious uncoupling" in March 2014, maintaining an amicable co-parenting relationship for their children.
The recent controversy highlights the challenges faced by children of celebrities in the digital age, where unverified rumours can spread rapidly across social media platforms before being addressed directly by those involved.
