Apple Martin Dismisses Bullying and Expulsion Rumours as 'Completely Untrue'
Apple Martin, the 21-year-old daughter of actress Gwyneth Paltrow and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, has taken to social media to firmly deny widespread rumours that she was expelled from school for bullying. The Vanderbilt University student addressed the allegations directly via her Instagram Stories on Monday, labelling them as false and misleading.
Public Rebuttal on Social Media
In a candid message reshared to her followers, Martin wrote: 'Hi! I didn't wanna respond but this narrative is completely false and has gotten so out of hand.' She explicitly stated, 'I have never been expelled from any school, especially not for bullying anyone.' While acknowledging that public criticism comes with her profile, she emphasised that the specific rumour was baseless, adding 'this rumor is completely untrue, I am not that type of person and anyone who is close to me knows that.'
Origins of the Controversy
The allegations appear to stem from a 2024 incident at the prestigious Le Bal des Debutantes in Paris. Viral footage from the event seemed to show Martin attempting to intrude on another debutante's photo shoot and later rolling her eyes at her date, Count Leo Cosima Henckel von Donnersmarck. This led to online speculation and accusations of bullying behaviour.
However, a source close to the Paltrow family previously defended Martin to DailyMail.com, characterising her as a 'girls' girl' rather than a 'mean girl.' The insider insisted that her actions at the ball were misinterpreted, stating 'She would never mean to take the spotlight from anyone, that was not her intention. To characterize her as a mean girl is very untrue.' Regarding her interaction with her date, the source described it as playful jest captured out of context by constant cameras.
Future Career Plans and Personal Revelations
Separately, in a recent interview with Vogue, Martin revealed a significant shift in her post-graduation plans. Initially intending to pursue law school—a path she now attributes to a rebellious phase of not wanting to emulate her famous parents—she has decided to follow her mother into acting instead. 'I love dancing and I love acting. My dream is to act,' she declared, while also clarifying she has no interest in a music career like her father.
The Vogue feature also included personal disclosures, with Martin admitting to having lip filler once at age 18, which she felt was 'too big,' and attributing her current appearance largely to lip liner and posing. She is set to graduate from Vanderbilt University in May with a degree in law, history, and society.
Family Background and Public Profile
Apple Martin is the eldest child of Paltrow and Martin, who separated in 2014 using the much-discussed term 'conscious uncoupling,' but have maintained an amicable co-parenting relationship. They also share a son, Moses, 19. Martin has been gradually stepping into the public eye, making her fashion week debut in 2023 with a front-row seat at a Chanel show in Paris.
Her statement represents a direct effort to control a narrative that had gained traction online, underscoring the challenges faced by children of celebrities in navigating public perception and unfounded rumours.
