In a striking departure from her signature style, Billie Eilish was almost unrecognisable during a relaxed horseback riding session in Los Angeles over the weekend. The nine-time Grammy winner, who had just celebrated Thanksgiving with her family, swapped her usual baggy attire for a form-fitting equestrian outfit, showcasing a completely different look.
A Dramatic Style Transformation
The 23-year-old singer wore an all-black ensemble consisting of a high-neck, long-sleeved shirt paired with fitted trousers and traditional riding boots. She wore her long, dark hair in a tight ponytail and appeared to be wearing little to no makeup for her solo excursion. Eilish looked completely unfazed and relaxed as she prepared for the low-key activity, a stark contrast to the public dispute she currently finds herself in.
The Billionaire Call-Out and Musk's Retort
This casual outing came on the heels of a very public and strange exchange with tech billionaire Elon Musk. The feud ignited after Eilish delivered one of the most blistering celebrity call-outs of the year, criticising the hoarding of wealth by the ultra-rich. The situation escalated when, after making a donation from her Hit Me Hard and Soft tour, Eilish labelled Musk a 'pathetic p***y b**** coward' on the heels of his potential trillionaire status.
Musk swiftly fired back on social media, retorting that the Ocean Eyes hitmaker was 'not the sharpest tool in the shed' after she urged him to redistribute his vast fortune.
A Consistent Stance on Wealth Redistribution
This is not the first time Eilish has voiced these concerns. The conflict began in late October when she used her acceptance speech at the WSJ Innovator Awards to directly challenge billionaires in attendance, including Meta's Mark Zuckerberg. Standing before a crowd of wealthy individuals, she pointedly asked, 'If you're a billionaire, why are you a billionaire?'
She elaborated on her stance, stating, 'We're in a time right now when the world is really, really bad and really dark. People need empathy and help more than, kind of, ever, especially in our country.' Eilish urged those with immense wealth to use it for good, suggesting they 'give it to some people that need it.'
Following the event, she continued her advocacy on her Instagram Story, posting a series of infographics that outlined ways Musk could make a substantial effort to end world hunger. This public pressure campaign occurred as it was revealed she would be personally donating $11.5 million from her tour profits to various organisations and charities, leading by example while calling on others to follow suit.
