In a dramatic public escalation of a long-simmering family rift, Brooklyn Beckham has made a series of explosive allegations against his parents, David and Victoria Beckham, including a claim about his wife's wedding dress that directly contradicts previous accounts from the bride's own team.
The Contradictory Claims Over The Wedding Gown
In an extraordinary online statement posted on Monday night, the 26-year-old eldest son of the Beckhams accused his mother of cancelling plans to design Nicola Peltz's wedding gown at the 'eleventh hour' ahead of their April 2022 nuptials. Brooklyn asserted this last-minute move forced his then-fiancée to urgently find a replacement dress.
This recollection, however, starkly differs from the narrative provided by Nicola's high-profile stylist, Leslie Fremar, at the time of the wedding. Fremar, whose clients include A-listers like Charlize Theron, told Vogue that the stunning couture Valentino gown worn by the 31-year-old actress was a year in the making.
Fremar detailed an extensive process that involved two trips to Valentino's Rome headquarters with creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli, followed by two fittings in the US. Head seamstresses even travelled to Miami to ensure a perfect fit. 'It was the ultimate couture experience,' Fremar said, describing the magnificent simplicity of the design, which led them to eliminate planned embroidery.
A Brewing Feud and Conflicting Explanations
The origins of the tension have long been linked to the wedding dress choice. Initial rumours suggested Nicola had refused to wear a design by her mother-in-law. Nicola herself addressed this in a 2022 interview, denying a feud but confirming the speculation started because she didn't wear Victoria's design.
'I really, really wanted to wear it,' she told the Sunday Times, insisting Victoria's atelier simply didn't have time to create the dress. However, in another interview that year with Grazia USA, Nicola hinted at more discord, claiming Victoria blanked her for days after initially agreeing to design the dress before calling Nicola's mother to say her studio couldn't make it.
The situation was compounded on the wedding day itself when Victoria, along with four close friends and her own mother, all wore her own VB designs, highlighting the absence of a gown by the fashion designer for the bride.
Broader Allegations of Control and Estrangement
Brooklyn's lengthy statement went far beyond the dress drama, painting a picture of a lifelong struggle with parental control and a concerted effort to undermine his marriage. He claimed his parents tried to 'ruin' his relationship before the wedding and accused them of pressuring him to sign away the rights to his name for a financial deal.
He also made a deeply personal allegation that members of his family told him the night before his wedding that Nicola was 'not blood' and 'not family.' Furthermore, he described an incident at the wedding reception where he claims his mother 'hijacked' his first dance with Nicola, dancing 'very inappropriately' with him and leaving him humiliated. This, he said, led the couple to renew their vows privately in August 2022 without his family present.
Brooklyn stated he has no wish to reconcile with his family, alleging that 'Brand Beckham comes first' and that family love is measured by social media promotion. He confirmed the estrangement is total, revealing he asked his parents to communicate only through lawyers last summer and that he remains blocked by his brothers on social media.
While Brooklyn aired his grievances, Nicola paid tribute to Valentino Garavani, the designer of her wedding gown, who passed away on the same day. The Beckhams have been contacted for comment regarding Brooklyn's allegations.
