Television personality and singer Coleen Nolan has made a candid admission about her approach to life, revealing she has completely "given up" on making New Year's resolutions. The Loose Women panellist described her outlook on the coming year as both "exciting – and a bit scary," while also reflecting on the profound and enduring grief she carries following the deaths of her sisters, Bernie and Linda Nolan.
A Shift in Perspective for the New Year
In a heartfelt interview with My Weekly, Coleen Nolan explained her decision to forgo traditional resolutions. "I don't make New Year's resolutions. I've given up because I always fail," she confessed. Looking ahead to 2026, she expressed a complex mix of emotions about the unknown. "As for 2026, I kind of like not knowing what the future holds. I find it really exciting – and a bit scary," the 60-year-old shared, highlighting a personal philosophy that embraces uncertainty rather than fighting it with often-unfulfilled promises.
Unfulfilled Ambitions and a New Fitness Regime
Nolan also opened up about a long-held professional ambition that remains unfulfilled: a spot on the hit BBC show Strictly Come Dancing. "I've always, always wanted to do Strictly," she said, revealing her repeated efforts to secure an invitation. "They've never asked me – even though I have literally pleaded, begged and put my life on the line for them." She contrasted this with her experience on Dancing on Ice in 2009, an event she recalls with vivid, almost traumatic clarity.
Her fitness routine, however, has found a natural and demanding outlet. Over the last eighteen months, Nolan has noticed a significant improvement in her physical condition, attributing it to the manual labour required on her smallholding in Staffordshire. "I bought myself a little smallholding in Staffordshire, so I've got about 30 animals that all have to be fed, mucked out and groomed," she explained. "It's real manual labour lifting hay bales, so I get my exercise from that." This rural lifestyle provides a stark and healthy contrast to her television career.
Carrying the Legacy of Lost Sisters
Amid discussions of future plans and daily life, the conversation inevitably turned to the immense loss of her sisters. Linda Nolan, a fellow Loose Women star and Celebrity Big Brother contestant, passed away in January 2025 at the age of 65 after being admitted to Blackpool Victoria Hospital with double pneumonia. Linda, who was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 and given the all-clear in 2011, was later diagnosed with secondary breast cancer in 2017. She was a tireless campaigner for breast cancer awareness.
Bernie Nolan, also a talented singer, died from breast cancer in 2013 at the age of 52. Both sisters were integral members of the famous pop group The Nolans, alongside Coleen, Denise, Maureen, and Anne. The group enjoyed significant success in the late 1970s and early 1980s with hits like I'm in the Mood for Dancing and Gotta Pull Myself Together.
An Irreplaceable Void in Music and Family
Coleen Nolan stressed that the idea of reuniting The Nolans for a tour is now inconceivable without Bernie and Linda. "It wouldn't feel right for us to reunite and go back out on tour as The Nolans without Bernie and Linda," she said, her grief palpable. "It would just make me miss them, if it's possible, more than I already do." This sentiment underscores the deep personal and professional bond the sisters shared, a connection that death has severed but not diminished in memory.
Currently, Coleen Nolan is channelling her energy into her solo career with her This Is Me tour. The show offers audiences an intimate glimpse into her life story, her career highlights, and the personal challenges she has faced. It serves as a testament to her resilience and ongoing connection with her fans, even as she navigates a future marked by both exciting possibilities and poignant absence.
