Emeli Sandé announces split from fiancée Yoana Karemova

Scottish singer-songwriter Emeli Sandé has publicly confirmed the end of her engagement to classical pianist Yoana Karemova. The 38-year-old music star revealed the couple decided to go their separate ways in the summer of 2024.

A Mutual Decision to Focus on Careers

In a statement given to The Sun, Sandé explained the reasoning behind the split, emphasising the mutual care that remains between them. The singer stated that both she and Karemova needed to dedicate their time and energy to their respective music careers, which ultimately led to the decision to part. "Sadly, we decided to separate in the summer," Sandé said. "We both care very much for each other but needed to focus our time and energy on our music careers."

Representatives for Emeli Sandé have been contacted by the Daily Mail for further comment on the situation.

A Relationship That Captured Public Attention

The couple's journey was closely followed by fans after Sandé made a significant personal announcement in early 2022. She revealed she was part of the LGBT community and in a same-sex relationship with Yoana Karemova. Just six months later, in September 2022, the "Next To Me" singer joyfully announced their engagement.

However, wedding plans faced delays. In 2023, just one year after getting engaged, the couple were forced to cancel their ceremony, initially citing Sandé's demanding professional schedule as the primary reason. Speaking to The Metro at the time, Sandé indicated the wedding was on hold until after her album release and tour, with plans to resume planning in 2024.

Sandé had previously spoken of finding great happiness in the relationship. In a heartfelt Instagram post revealing their love, she called Karemova her "soulmate" and credited her with providing "the strength she needed." The post, accompanied by a loved-up photo, expressed her deep happiness and gratitude for public support.

Sandé's Relationship History

This engagement marked Sandé's second serious commitment. She was previously married to marine biologist Adam Gouraguine after a decade-long relationship. The couple exchanged vows in 2012 but separated two years later, in 2014.

When she came out in 2022, Sandé was asked about her sexual identity. She offered a reflective response, telling an interviewer, "I'm not sure what I identify as but I guess so. I just feel like I should fall in love with whoever I fall in love with."

The singer met Yoana Karemova while studying classical music. Despite the end of their romantic relationship, Sandé's statement confirms the separation was amicable, with both individuals choosing to prioritise their artistic paths.
