Gypsy-Rose Blanhardt Faces Backlash for TikTok Joke About Mother's Murder
Two years after her release from Chillicothe Correctional Center, Gypsy-Rose Blanhardt has ignited a firestorm of controversy by making light of the crime that sent her to prison. The 34-year-old, who served eight and a half years of a ten-year sentence for the second-degree murder of her mother Clauddine 'Dee Dee' Blanhardt, showed no remorse in a recent TikTok video.
Tone-Deaf Social Media Post Draws Widespread Condemnation
On Saturday, Blanhardt teamed up with fellow disgraced influencer Natalie Reynolds for the TikTok trend 'We listen and we don't judge.' In the video, Blanhardt stated bluntly, 'I went to prison for eight and a half years because I [unalived] my own mom.' When the 23-year-old Reynolds responded with 'Oh my god,' Blanhardt snapped back, 'Hey, we listen and we don't judge.'
The post was immediately met with outrage from viewers. TikTok user @brentsenff received over 209,000 likes for commenting, 'We listen and we call a judge.' Another user, @langston_dagoat, posted 'Um... maybe no...' alongside a horrified face meme, earning over 76,000 likes. Additional critical comments included @.CELYNE.'s 'So this is a confession right?' and @jennifersynder's pointed remark, 'Nothing funny about this at all.'
Recounting the Gruesome 2015 Murder
The incident referenced dates back to 2015, when Blanhardt conspired with her online ex-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn to kill her abusive mother. Blanhardt provided Godejohn, who has an IQ of 82, with duct tape, gloves, and a knife. He then stabbed Dee Dee Blanhardt 17 times in the back as she slept. Following the murder, the couple stole $4,400 in cash and mailed the weapon back to Godejohn's home in Wisconsin before fleeing by bus.
Godejohn is currently serving a life sentence without parole at Missouri's Potosi Correctional Center, plus an additional 25 years for armed criminal action. The case, which the pair blamed on Dee Dee's undiagnosed Munchausen syndrome by proxy, inspired significant media attention, including Hulu's 2019 series The Act and Lifetime's movie Love You to Death.
Recent Revelations and Personal Updates
Two months ago, disturbing new details emerged when Into the Weeds obtained over 100 previously unseen video calls between Blanhardt and Godejohn through a freedom of information request. In these calls from 2015, Blanhardt, speaking as her alter ego Demona, discussed bizarre plans for future children, including protecting them from the outside world and controversial ideas about virginity.
Recently, Blanhardt has been focusing on her personal life and public image. Last Monday, she shared bikini-clad photos celebrating her 'first time wearing a two-piece in public' after losing 35 pounds from her petite 4ft 11in frame. She claimed the weight loss was natural, 'an adjustment to freedom,' and not achieved through trendy GLP-1 agonist drugs.
Blanhardt and her fiancé of two years, Ken Urker, are parents to 14-month-old daughter Aurora Raina Urker. She rekindled her romance with the 33-year-old bartender in March 2024, effectively ending her 20-month marriage to ex-husband Ryan Scott Anderson. Despite Lifetime canceling her reality show Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up last August, Blanhardt maintains a presence as an aspiring podcaster and through paid partnerships with brands like Bondi Sands Australia, e.l.f. Cosmetics, and Avia Leggings.
