Jason Biggs Shows Son Infamous American Pie Scene to Control Narrative
Jason Biggs Shows Son American Pie Scene to Get Ahead

In a candid revelation, actor Jason Biggs has disclosed that he proactively showed his eldest son the infamous scene from American Pie to preempt potentially awkward conversations. The 47-year-old star, best known for his role as Jim Levenstein in the popular sex-comedy franchise, explained this unconventional parenting move during an appearance on Radio Andy's Julia Cunningham Show.

A Proactive Parenting Approach

Biggs shared that his sons, Sid, aged 11, and Lazlo, aged eight, frequently encounter questions about their famous parents' work. "They kept hearing about American Pie and pie and [asking], 'Daddy, what do you do with the pie?' and I had to have a conversation with my oldest," Biggs recalled. He and his wife, fellow actor Jenny Mollen, decided to "get ahead of this" by showing Sid the scene before he could discover it through other means.

An Unconventional 'Sex Talk'

Biggs framed this decision as his unique version of a sex talk. "It's like, how much do you want them to hear from friends and other people at school, and how much do you want to control the narrative, and it was literally happening with American Pie," he explained. The scene in question, from the 1999 film, features Jim being caught by his father, played by Eugene Levy, in a humiliating encounter involving a freshly baked apple.

A Close Call in New York

The actor recounted a moment that highlighted the urgency of addressing the topic. While walking with his family in New York, a passerby shouted, "Hey, it's the pie f***-er," fortunately without the boys hearing. This near-miss prompted Biggs to realise it was time to have the conversation with Sid.

The Reveal and Reaction

Before showing the scene, Biggs asked his son what he thought might happen. "He actually guessed correctly. He guessed it, so in a way, I almost didn't control the narrative," Biggs admitted. Despite initial embarrassment, Sid laughed upon viewing the scene. "He was a little uncomfortable for sure," Biggs noted, adding that his son did compliment his acting skills, saying, "He did say I was a good actor."

The American Pie Legacy

The American Pie franchise, which chronicles Jim's awkward journey into adulthood, includes four films: American Pie (1999), American Pie 2 (2001), American Wedding (2003), and American Reunion (2012). Alongside Biggs and Levy, the original cast featured eight other actors who appeared in all four movies, such as Alyson Hannigan, Seann William Scott, and Tara Reid.

This story underscores the challenges celebrity parents face in managing their public personas within family life, blending humour with heartfelt parenting strategies.
