Joy Behar's Weight Loss Revelation on The View
Joy Behar, the 83-year-old television personality who first joined The View in 1997, has openly revealed that she lost 25 pounds after using a GLP-1 medication for weight management. The disclosure occurred during Wednesday's episode of the daytime talk show, where the topic of weight loss medications and associated stigma was brought up by guest host Savannah Chrisley.
Candid Discussion on Weight Loss Stigma
During the episode, Chrisley addressed the shame often attached to using weight loss drugs like Ozempic, stating, "That's the thing. That has been something that is - people are made to feel so much shame around doing and it isn't. People do it for health related reasons. I personally did it because I was pre-diabetic."
Co-host Whoopi Goldberg added her own experience, sharing, "I did it because I was almost 300 pounds and I'm looking good now." Behar then chimed in with her personal achievement, telling the live audience, "I lost 25," before enthusiastically declaring, "We all did it!"
Hollywood's Embrace of GLP-1 Medications
While Behar did not specify which particular GLP-1 medication she used or when her weight loss journey began, she joins a growing list of Hollywood celebrities who have been vocal about using such drugs. Notable figures including Oprah Winfrey and Meghan Trainor have previously discussed their experiences with similar weight management medications.
This is not the first time The View has hosted discussions about GLP-1 medications. Back in 2024, Behar came to Kelly Clarkson's defense after the singer faced criticism for her weight loss achieved through similar medication. During that episode, Behar expressed her frustration with traditional dieting methods, stating, "Diets do not work. I've been on diets up and down, up and down. You lose it, then you gain it back."
She further elaborated on the universal desire for weight management, adding, "Nobody wants to be fat except a sumo wrestler. It's uncomfortable, your clothes don't fit, everybody wants to lose weight."
Additional Celebrity Experiences Shared
Savannah Chrisley also shared her personal journey during the latest episode, revealing she lost 40 pounds while using a GLP-1 medication. Late last year in November, she had discussed her plans to use weight loss medication to lose nearly 30 pounds during an episode of her Unlocked podcast, stating, "Right now I am almost 160lbs. Probably more than that. I like my weight to be 135, around there."
Chrisley recalled previously taking weight loss medication that completely eliminated her appetite, an experience she did not enjoy. She expressed particular satisfaction with tirzepatide, noting, "I love tirzepatide. It doesn't give me all the side effects that some of these other ones give people. So then I can compare my bloodwork before taking it and after taking it and see where my biological age is, how my A1C is, all those things."
Despite her weight loss goals, Chrisley emphasized maintaining body confidence, stating, "I just believe as long as you feel good in your body, that's all that matters. And I want to be skinny. I want people to be like, 'Is she okay?'" She added with humor, "I don't want to lose my a** but I want to be pretty thin."
Whoopi Goldberg's Weight Loss Journey
Whoopi Goldberg shared in 2024 that she used Mounjaro to achieve significant weight loss, revealing, "I will tell you, I weighed almost 300 lbs. when I made Till," referencing the 2022 movie. Her decision to begin medication came after a moment of self-reflection, as she recalled, "I just always felt like me. And then I saw me and I thought, 'Oh! That's a lot of me!'"
Behar's Approach to Aging and Appearance
Earlier this month, Behar opened up about her youthful appearance in an interview with People, directly addressing speculation about cosmetic procedures. "People think I had a facelift. I did not have a facelift," she revealed, explaining that she has instead used Botox and fillers.
The television personality attributed her appearance to both genetics and aesthetic treatments, stating, "I happen to have good skin. I inherited that from my mother. I don't really have a lot of wrinkles. And I'm lucky that I have a lot of hair. I do have a lot of hair; I never lost it."
To achieve higher cheekbones, Behar undergoes Restylane treatments, which she described as "the original aesthetic hyaluronic acid (HA) filler" according to the official website. She demystified the procedure, explaining, "Anybody can have high cheekbones. Because it's fat or collagen or whatever the hell they put in there. It's not really bones."
Comparing different treatments, Behar noted, "The filler is actually way better than the Botox. The Botox, I don't know what that does. It freezes lines on your forehead, I guess."
Behar's History with The View
Joy Behar first joined The View in 1997 before being fired from the talk show in 2013. Reflecting on that period, she told Time Magazine, "I was glad to be fired. I was basically sick of the show at that point for some reason, I don't even remember why." However, just two years later, she returned to the program as one of the main co-hosts in 2015, where she continues to share her candid perspectives on various topics including health, beauty, and personal wellness.
