Kate Hudson turned heads at the TIME100 Gala in New York City on Thursday night, joining a star-studded lineup of honorees. The 47-year-old Oscar nominee is featured in the magazine's 2026 issue as one of the 'most influential people' of the year, appearing under the 'Icons' category alongside Olympic figure skating champion Alysa Liu and pop star-turned-mogul Victoria Beckham.
Family Affair
Hudson brought her 22-year-old son, Ryder Robinson, as her plus one. Ryder, dressed in a classic black suit and striped tie, accompanied his mother to the event. Hudson shares Ryder with her ex-husband, The Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson, 59.
Red Carpet Glamour
For the soirée, Hudson wore a plunging black top with cape-like sleeves and a sexy pencil skirt. She elevated her look with leather gloves, semi-sheer tights, and stiletto heels. Her makeup featured smoky black eyeshadow and a glossy nude lip, while her blonde hair was swept into an elegant bun with a single strand left out to frame her face. Accessories included yellow gold earrings and a matching ornate gold cuff on her right wrist.
The event, held at Jazz at Lincoln Center, was hosted by Traitors star Maura Higgins and 106 & Park's Terrence J.
Mindy Kaling's Tribute
As part of her TIME100 honor, Hudson received a blurb from close friend and Running Point creator Mindy Kaling. Kaling revealed their 'Hollywood friendship' began at an Oscars party, where they bonded after being ignored and noticing a 'very famous person' cut in front of them in a portrait line. 'Kate and I exchanged a quick "did that just happen?" look, and I remember thinking, I want to be friends with her,' Kaling recalled.
Kaling noted that their friendship inspired her to create Running Point, a Netflix sports comedy starring Hudson. 'Working together, I grew to admire her more. I always knew she was funny, but I learned her timing comes from a place of humility,' she wrote. Kaling praised Hudson as an 'incredible dramatic actress' with an impressive singing voice, concluding: 'Kate makes being the coolest girl in the room feel effortless, and then, just to keep it interesting, she keeps changing what that means. She doesn't cling to any one version of herself. She keeps moving, keeps trying things, keeps making it look like a very good idea to trust your instincts and go where the fun is. And somehow, she makes it all look easy, which is the hardest thing in the world.'
Honor and New Season
Hudson was announced as a TIME100 honoree on April 15, reacting on Instagram, calling it 'so exciting' and 'an honor.' She is currently promoting the second season of Running Point, which premiered on Netflix on Thursday, April 23. The show, which first streamed last year, stars Hudson, Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Brenda Song, Chet Hanks, and Justin Theroux. The premise: Isla Gordon (Hudson), overlooked her whole life, is appointed President of the LA Waves basketball team, a family business, when her brother enters rehab. She aims to prove she is the right choice despite skepticism.
