Television personality Lizzie Cundy has been pictured looking utterly smitten with her new love interest, American DJ Donald Frieze, during a cosy date night in West Hollywood. The pair enjoyed an intimate evening at the popular hotspot, The Nice Guy, signalling a fresh romantic chapter for the 57-year-old star.
A Stylish Evening Out
The media personality cut a stunning figure for her night out, showcasing her impeccable style. She wore a chic black sequin top paired with a leather mini skirt that highlighted her long, toned legs. Completing the elegant ensemble was a sophisticated black-and-white pinstripe blazer and a striking pair of red-and-black stiletto heels.
Grinning from ear to ear, Lizzie accessorised with a classic black quilted Chanel bag for her essentials. Her new beau, Donald Frieze, looked equally sharp for the occasion, opting for a smart-casual look with a black round-neck jumper and tailored black trousers. The American DJ appeared affectionate, sweetly wrapping his arm around Lizzie as they posed for several photographs together.
Overcoming Past Heartbreak
This new romance comes after a difficult period in Lizzie's personal life, following the very public breakdown of her previous marriage. She was married to English former footballer Jason Cundy for 18 years, after the couple tied the knot in 1994. They had initially met at a nightclub in Richmond, London.
The marriage ultimately ended in 2012 when Lizzie discovered her husband's affair with opera singer Hannah Pedley. In a recent BBC documentary titled Sex After Celebrity, she reflected on the immense pain of that time, particularly the challenge of having her private turmoil play out in the public eye.
She revealed: 'It was the most awful time when my marriage split up, not just because it was a marriage splitting up and family was being split up, it was because it was on the front page of the papers.' The TV star described the profound sense of isolation she felt, recalling how even friends and other mothers at her children's school didn't know how to act around her, sometimes crossing the road to avoid an encounter.
A New Lease on Life and Love
Following the divorce, Lizzie admitted she found it challenging to re-enter the dating world, grappling with significant trust issues. She even recounted a disturbing date where she suspected the man was secretly recording their conversation, a fear he confirmed when confronted.
However, her perspective on romance has since transformed. She has dated high-profile figures like England rugby player Danny Cipriani and has now embraced a more positive outlook. She described her current approach to dating as 'great now', expressing a particular fondness for long-distance relationships which she finds allow for freshness and excitement.
'I am loving dating,' she said enthusiastically. 'I do long-distance relationships, which is fantastic. You can send little naughty pics and you just keep it fresh. They're not there all the time, getting on your nerves.' She has adopted a modern, pragmatic philosophy, appreciating different partners for different qualities, from shared interests to companionship and intimacy.
This new relationship with Donald Frieze appears to be a testament to her renewed happiness and confidence. The couple's comfortable and affectionate demeanour during their West Hollywood date suggests Lizzie has truly found a new lease on life, leaving the pain of her public divorce firmly in the past.
The documentary featuring her candid reflections, 'Sex After Celebrity', is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
