Former Made in Chelsea star Lucy Watson has been subjected to mum-shaming after revealing her intention to raise her unborn child on a vegan diet. The 32-year-old, who announced her pregnancy earlier this week with husband James Dunmore, shared her plans during an Instagram Q&A session.
Watson, a long-time vegan, faced criticism from followers who questioned whether a vegan diet is suitable for a baby. One commenter wrote: 'Surely the kid should get to choose?' while another claimed: 'No midwife will agree to this so she can plan it all she likes but it will be considered child neglect.' Others referenced a case in Australia where parents were jailed for malnourishing their child on a strict vegan diet.
In response to the backlash, Watson defended her decision, stating that her veganism did not hinder her fertility. 'I've had many people along this journey tell me you need to give up the vegan diet, it's stopping you getting pregnant. That is not the case,' she wrote. 'There are people who are crack addicts and get pregnant. Being vegan is not going to stop you.'
Watson and Dunmore, who met on the E4 reality show, married in 2021. The star previously credited leaving Made in Chelsea in 2016 with saving their relationship, citing the show's negative impact on their happiness.
