Meghan Trainor Shares Heartfelt Surrogacy Story for Third Child
Pop sensation Meghan Trainor has publicly explained her decision to use a surrogate to welcome her third child with husband Daryl Sabara, offering a candid and emotional insight into their family's journey. The 32-year-old singer secretly gave birth to daughter Mikey Moon on January 18th, 2026, and announced the joyous news to her followers via Instagram this week.
A Decision Rooted in Safety and Medical Guidance
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE magazine, Trainor revealed that surrogacy was not the couple's initial preference but became the safest option after extensive consultations with medical professionals. 'It wasn’t our first choice, but we had endless conversations with our doctors on this journey, and this was the safest way for us to be able to continue growing our family,' the chart-topping artist confessed. She expressed profound gratitude, stating, 'We are forever grateful for that option.'
The couple, who are already parents to sons Riley, aged five, and Barry, aged two, from traditional pregnancies, emphasised that every family's path is unique. Trainor passionately advocated for normalising surrogacy, declaring, 'I want people to know that surrogacy is just another beautiful way to build a family. It’s not something to whisper about or judge. It’s rooted in trust, science, love, and teamwork. Every family’s journey looks different, and all of them are extremely valid.'
Praising a 'Selfless and Loving' Surrogate
Trainor reserved special praise for the woman who carried their daughter, describing her as 'one of the most selfless, strong and loving people I’ve ever met.' She detailed a close connection throughout the pregnancy, noting, 'We felt so connected throughout the entire journey, and I’ll always be grateful for the care and love she showed our daughter. She gave us the greatest gift of our lives. She graciously answered our many check-in texts to make sure she was doing okay.'
On Instagram, the new mother-of-three announced the birth with a heartfelt post that read, 'Jan 18th 2026. Our baby girl Mikey Moon Trainor has finally made it to the world thanks to our incredible, superwoman surrogate. We are forever grateful to all the doctors, nurses, teams who made this dream possible.' She added, 'We are over the moon in love with this precious girl,' and shared that her older sons are thrilled, having even chosen their sister's middle name.
Overwhelming Support and Past Pregnancy Challenges
The announcement has garnered immense support, amassing over 1.5 million likes from fans and fellow celebrities. Comments flooded in, with one fan exclaiming, 'WHATTTT!!!!! OMG MY HEART THIS IS INCREDIBLE!!! Congratulations!!!! So happy for you and your family!!!' while singer Jessie J wrote, 'My heart is bursting for you all,' and model Amelia Hamlin added, 'Omgomgomg.'
Trainor's openness about surrogacy follows her previous disclosures regarding complications during her earlier pregnancies. Her first son, Riley, faced breathing issues and required a stay in the neonatal intensive care unit after his birth in 2021. In a January 2025 essay for Today.com, she also detailed feeling 'over-exhausted' and panicky following the delivery of Barry in 2023, highlighting the physical and emotional tolls that influenced their family planning decisions.
As the family settles into life with their newborn, Trainor signed off her social media message by saying, 'Riley and Barry have been so excited, they even got to choose her middle name. We are going to enjoy our family time now, love you all,' marking a new chapter filled with love and gratitude.
