Grammy-winning singer Meghan Trainor and her husband, actor Daryl Sabara, have joyfully announced the arrival of their third child, a daughter named Mikey, born via surrogate this past Sunday. In a heartwarming family decision, the couple entrusted their two young sons with selecting their newborn sister's middle name.
A Celestial Choice from the Brothers
The 32-year-old Massachusetts-born artist and the 33-year-old Spy Kids alumnus asked their four-year-old son Riley and two-year-old son Barry to choose the middle name for their baby sister. The boys selected the celestial moniker 'Moon,' making the newborn's full name Mikey Moon Sabara. Trainor shared in her birth announcement on Tuesday that 'Riley and Barry have been so excited' about the new addition to their family.
In her social media post, which reached her 60.5 million followers, Trainor wrote: 'They even got to choose her middle name. We are going to enjoy our family time now, love you all.' The couple, who co-host the Workin' On It podcast, expressed that they are 'over the moon in love with this precious girl.'
Surrogacy as the Safest Path
Trainor and Sabara revealed that they pursued surrogacy after medical professionals advised them it represented 'the safest way for us to be able to continue growing our family.' This decision follows Trainor's previous openness about her health journey, including undergoing a breast augmentation and lift with plastic surgeon Dr. Payman Danielpour last year and losing 60 pounds using the GLP-1 agonist drug Mounjaro.
The singer has also been candid about her mental health struggles, confessing in a TODAY essay last year that she experienced postpartum depression after the birth of her second child. Despite these challenges, Trainor has expressed her desire to eventually welcome four children into their family.
Balancing Motherhood with a Busy Career
Trainor now has approximately five months to bond with her newborn before embarking on her demanding 33-date The Get In Girl Tour, scheduled to commence on June 12 at the Pine Knob Music Theatre in Clarkston, Michigan. Prior to the tour, audiences will see the Gifts for Me singer in a mystery role in Ryan Murphy and Matthew Hodgson's 11-episode series The Beauty, premiering this Wednesday on FX and Hulu on Disney+.
The sci-fi body horror series, which explores a sexually-transmitted treatment, features an ensemble cast including Evan Peters, Ashton Kutcher, Rebecca Hall, Nicola Peltz Beckham, Bella Hadid, Ben Platt, Amelia Gray Hamlin, Peter Gallagher, and Vincent D'Onofrio.
Family Milestones and Professional Ventures
Meanwhile, Daryl Sabara continues his acting career, portraying Derek Kahn in Jim Cummings' five-episode limited series The Screener, which premieres this Friday at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. The couple recently celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary on December 22, having been originally set up on a date by mutual friend Chloë Grace Moretz in 2016, though they first met at a party in 2014.
On February 8, the family will mark another significant milestone as their eldest child, Riley, celebrates his fifth birthday. Trainor, who boasts 29.9 million monthly listeners on Spotify, first rose to fame in 2014 with her debut single All About That Bass, which topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and sold 11 million copies worldwide.
The arrival of baby Mikey Moon represents a new chapter for the showbiz couple, who continue to navigate the complexities of parenting, career demands, and personal health while expanding their family through surrogacy.
