Irish actor Paul Mescal and his partner, American singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams, made an uncommon public outing on Wednesday evening to attend a special screening of Paul McCartney's new documentary, Man On The Run. The event, held at the exclusive Ham Yard Hotel in London, previewed the Amazon Prime Video production that chronicles the legendary musician's life after The Beatles disbanded, set for release on February 27.
A Supportive Couple at the Premiere
The couple, who have been in a relationship since 2024 and typically maintain a low profile, showed their support for McCartney's latest project. Mescal, aged 30, cut a casual yet stylish figure in a baseball cap and a long grey coat, while Abrams, 26, complemented his look with her own cap and an oversized black blazer adorned with a pink corsage. Their appearance together marked a departure from their usual privacy, drawing attention from fans and media alike.
Mescal's Role in the Upcoming Beatles Biopic
Mescal is currently immersed in filming a highly anticipated Beatles biopic, where he portrays a young Paul McCartney. He will be joined by a stellar cast including Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison in this four-part film series. In a notable commitment to authenticity, Mescal will record his own vocals for the role, a practice not uncommon in musical biopics, as seen with Taron Egerton's performance in Rocketman.
In an interview with British GQ, Mescal expressed his enthusiasm for the part, stating, 'I've learned so much. It's really inspired a love.' He further revealed that the experience has ignited a personal passion for music, adding, 'I've always loved music, but getting to play one of the great songwriters and great frontmen has really lit a fire in terms of personally writing music and engaging and hearing music in a different way.'
Career Priorities and Personal Life
Amidst his busy filming schedule, Mescal has hinted at a potential retreat from the public eye until the biopic's cinematic release in 2028. Reflecting on his career and personal milestones as he approaches his thirties, the actor shared insights into his evolving priorities. 'I really enjoyed the rhythm I've been working at. I think that process began when I was 23 and I'm now turning 30,' he said.
He continued, 'I can feel myself wanting to slow down a bit more and certain priorities come in where I spend my time, whether that's with my family or with my partner or with friends.' Mescal, who seldom discusses his romance with Abrams, admitted, 'I've never had a desire to really spend my time anywhere else other than work up until this point... And now I do have a desire to not spend my time necessarily in a rehearsal room or on set.'
This shift suggests a more balanced approach to life, emphasizing quality time with loved ones over relentless professional pursuits. As Mescal prepares to bring Paul McCartney's story to the big screen, fans can anticipate a heartfelt performance fueled by his newfound musical inspiration and personal reflections.
