Mimi Webb has revealed that recording her EP, Seven Shades Of Heartbreak, helped her realise her relationship was not right for her. The 21-year-old singer, who has been named third on BBC Radio 1's Sound Of 2022 list, said the EP made her focus on what was missing in her romance.
Speaking about her ex-boyfriend, Webb said: 'He probably struggles with it, you know? When he listens to the EP, he's going to think 'Oh, God'.' The EP became her first top 10 album, and she ended the year performing her single Good Without on the Top of the Pops Christmas special.
Webb, who grew up in Canterbury, began performing as a child and had a brief role on EastEnders before being inspired by Adele's album 19. She studied at the British Institute of Modern Music (BIMM) in Brighton, where she developed her 'powerhouse sing-your-heart-out songs'. Her first release, Before I Go, went viral on TikTok after she sang it a cappella for social media star Charli D'Amelio, amassing 85 million views.
Pop star Tom Grennan, who voted in the Sound Of 2022 poll, said: 'I think Mimi is a real talent... Her voice and song craft combined are incredibly potent.' Webb described making the top three as 'insane', adding: 'The Sound Of list is something I'd look out for every year... this is incredible!'
