Paddy Doherty Makes Emotional Plea for Prayers as Wife Roseanne Battles Pneumonia
Reality television star and former bare-knuckle boxer Paddy Doherty has issued a heartfelt public appeal for prayers and support after his wife Roseanne was admitted to hospital with pneumonia. The 67-year-old Celebrity Big Brother winner shared a candid video on Instagram this Friday, walking through hospital corridors while providing a sombre update on his spouse's condition.
Hospital Visit and Health Update
In the emotional clip, Doherty explained that medical staff were administering intravenous drips to Roseanne as she received treatment for pneumonia. 'They're putting drips on her,' he revealed to viewers, while expressing gratitude that she was in professional care. 'Thank god, because she couldn't be in a better place than a hospital. She's getting attention, she's getting looked after.'
The television personality went on to praise the medical facility as 'the greatest place in the world' before concluding his message with the words: 'Be lucky, be safe and god bless you all.' He captioned the Instagram post simply: 'Prayers for my wife.'
Fan Support and Previous Health Struggles
Followers immediately flooded the comments section with messages of support. One wrote: 'I have it Paddy very hard to shake but god bless your beautiful wife,' while another added: 'Prayers for your Wife Paddy. Get well soon Roseanne.'
This hospital admission comes amid a series of health challenges for the Doherty family. In March 2019, Paddy underwent a five-and-a-half-hour operation for prostate cancer after experiencing excruciating pain and passing blood during urination. He later revealed the suffering had been so severe he had contemplated taking his own life.
More recently, in 2022, Doherty was rushed to hospital after suffering a heart attack - an event that occurred just one year after he experienced complications from Covid-19. At that time, he shared a video from his hospital bed describing the sensation as 'like a horse sitting on your chest.' He attributed the cardiac episode to stress and excessive drinking, which he had turned to while coping with his mother's dementia.
Career Background and Personal Life
Doherty first gained national attention through his appearance on Channel 4's documentary series My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding, which explored traveller communities. His popularity soared when he won the eighth series of Celebrity Big Brother in 2011, defeating fellow finalist Kerry Katona. Other notable housemates from that series included pop duo Jedward and television personality Amy Childs.
Following his reality television success, Doherty appeared with former housemate Sally Bercow in the Channel 5 documentary When Paddy Met Sally, which featured them staying at each other's homes. Throughout his public career, Doherty has been open about both his professional achievements and personal struggles, including the loss of his mother Elizabeth (known as Queenie) in April 2018, less than a year after his father Simon passed away.
Despite recent health setbacks, Doherty has maintained a positive outlook. After his 2022 heart attack, he reassured fans in a follow-up video: 'I wouldn't say I'm great, but I'm getting there.' He vowed to return stronger and embrace a healthier lifestyle, demonstrating the resilience that has characterised both his boxing career and personal journey.
