Influencer Ruby Tuesday Matthews may not have set a wedding date yet, but she is firmly in bride-to-be mode. The 32-year-old, who announced her engagement to Shannan Dodd in 2021, shared a clip on her Instagram Story this week showing her trying on wedding gowns at a boutique in China.
Dress Shopping in China
Ruby appeared in her element as she modeled various dresses, including an elaborate creation with dense hand beading, sequins, and crystals. Another gown featured a figure-hugging corset top that revealed a hint of midriff and a voluminous ball gown skirt.
Narrating the clip, Ruby expressed astonishment at the prices of wedding dresses in China, with many costing as little as AUD $500. 'Let me show you what $500 in China gets you for a wedding dress,' she began.
Comparison to Australia
Ruby noted that if she had $500 to spend on a wedding ensemble in Australia, she would not bother shopping. 'Bam, here you go. Yes, they are off the rack, but $500 in Australia gets you a lukewarm glass of Prosecco and a consultation,' she said. 'Here, you get to try on the dresses – you do have to pay 50 RMB (AUD $10) to try each one on, but that is taken off your dress at the end if you do buy. It also entails a weird pair of sweaty slides that you must wear when trying on each dress.'
Quality and Experience
Ruby gushed over the quality of the dresses, admitting they made her rethink her career. 'These pieces are incredible – the quality of this one particular store was mind-blowing,' she said. 'I was questioning why I do the job I do and why I'm not importing these, to tell you the truth.'
She was particularly taken with an eye-catching strapless drop-waist gown with large bow-like accents at the hip. 'Overall, the fabric, and the fit, and the overall design was so, so beautiful,' she added. 'Overall, it was a really fun experience.'
Engagement Details
Ruby announced her engagement to Shannan Dodd in June 2021, sharing a photo of them kissing and showing off her diamond ring. The baguette cut diamond is set on a slender silver band. It is unclear when they started dating, but Ruby began posting loved-up photos in May 2021.
Despite the long engagement, Ruby admitted earlier this year that marriage is not a top priority. 'I would love to get married, I would love to make it down the aisle. I feel like it’s every girl’s dream to maybe one day go down the aisle,' she told the Daily Telegraph in February. However, she added that she wants to tick off other goals first, such as getting a pool and fixing her floor. 'I did buy a lounge, not wedding related,' she said.
