The hit Netflix series Running Point has returned for a second season, and fans are moved by a touching tribute at the end of episode three. The episode concludes with a title card reading: “In loving memory of #6 Niko Mijailovic.”
Who Was Niko Mijailovic?
Niko Mijailovic was a 15-year-old student at Campbell Hall School in Los Angeles, where he played for the varsity boys’ volleyball team. He tragically passed away in early 2025 due to sudden cardiac arrest, leaving behind his family, including his older sister Mila, also a volleyball player.
Campbell Hall Athletics paid tribute on Instagram, stating: “Niko was a true light within our community. He joined Campbell Hall in Kindergarten and grew into a beloved and thriving member of our varsity boys’ volleyball team. Beyond his incredible athletic talent, Niko was known for his quiet confidence, kind heart, and deep love for his friends and family.”
The Significance of #6
The number six in the tribute refers to Niko’s jersey number on the volleyball team. In June 2025, City Sports, a Los Angeles sports community that champions female athletes, dedicated their sports hall to Niko with a plaque commemorating “City’s #1 Little Brother.” Niko’s sister Mila is a star player for City Sports.
Earlier this month, City Sports announced that Mila had partnered with Huddle For Hearts to raise awareness of sudden cardiac arrest. More information about the campaign can be found on their fundraiser website.
How the Tribute Came to Be
According to Deadline, Niko’s family mentioned at his memorial service that Running Point was the last show they watched together before his passing. Friends of the family have connections to the Netflix series, which is how producers learned of Niko’s story. They received the family’s blessing to include the tribute card at the end of the episode.
