Ruth Codd Makes Red Carpet Return Following Second Leg Amputation
Irish actress Ruth Codd, known for her appearance on Celebrity Traitors, has stepped onto the red carpet for the first time since undergoing a second leg amputation. The 29-year-old star attended a performance of the West End show Hadestown in London, looking stylish in a feathered green mini dress and accompanied by her mother, Rita.
The Medical Journey Behind the Decision
Codd's medical journey began seven years ago when her first leg was amputated following a football injury that failed to heal properly. Years of using crutches subsequently destroyed her joints, leaving her in constant pain. In late 2025, she announced her second leg had been removed below the knee, sharing the news via TikTok while recovering at her parents' house.
In a December interview, Codd explained the reasoning behind her second amputation. "It's just that this foot, I was on crutches for the bones of eight years and the way I used my crutches I was always kind of on my tippy toes, so the joints in my feet were destroyed by the end of the eight years," she revealed. "And it's just kind of the same thing, it's gone past the point where they can kind of do anything about it."
Improving Quality of Life
The actress, who starred in The Midnight Club, had already undergone surgery to remove all her toes in 2021. Doctors informed her that her foot condition was unlikely to improve, making it increasingly difficult for her to work. "With the second one, it's just the same situation, it was just my quality of life, it's never going to get any better from this point," Codd stated during her appearance on Under The Skin with Grace Neutral.
She elaborated on the challenges she faced: "I haven't let it stop me from doing anything, but I feel like it has hindered me and made my ability to do my job more difficult. And I've been through it once before, so I think with two prosthetics I'll be pretty unstoppable."
Recovery Process and Celebrity Traitors Experience
Codd discussed the recovery process, noting she must wait at least a month for the limb to heal before using a prosthetic. Her red carpet appearance at Hadestown marked a significant milestone, where she joined other celebrities including Vanessa Feltz, Strictly Come Dancing star Nikita Kuzmin, and Traitors winner Stephen Libbey.
The actress's time on Celebrity Traitors was brief but memorable. She became the third contestant to leave the show after just four episodes when the Traitors chose to "murder" her. Ironically, Codd had correctly identified Jonathan Ross as a Traitor before her departure, with Ross being unmasked much later in the series.
Despite her medical challenges, Codd remains optimistic about her future with two prosthetics, focusing on enhancing her mobility and career prospects through this life-changing decision.
